2 subs

I didn't have enough space in my room for more than one sub either, but I was sooo fixated on having 2 subs that I stacked them on top of each other, per advice from the HSU website. They might sound better situated across the room from each other, but since I don't have that option I'm still thrilled with the overall slam...very tight and even throughout my room. The moral: not having enough room is NO excuse for not getting that 2nd sub!!

Hahaha, I need to save up some first. After that I will see the sub down in Texas if everything goes right it will be taken care of. If not I will get the BFD which still falls in the A.D.D. :) but first paneling!

Hokey Dokey. Just so long as you're ADDing to your system. ;)

agree with bpape, why set your speaker crossover so high? checked your LR speakers, they go down enough to meet 80.

anyway, 100 to 150 MIGHT be enough distance if you really want to stick with 100.

I moved it down to 80 like you guys said. Currently I have my crossovers set at 60 on the fronts, 100 on the center, and the surrounds as well as the sub set at 80. Does that sound good?

Also, I took your advice and played with my boundry gain and my phase and then I played with location. Room EQ is a life saver, saved me tons of time.

Here are the current results (a huge huge difference):

the denon 38 series has different crossover settings for the different channels? I wonder if the new denon 3808 has this as well.

make sure you are using a tripod, are you moving the mic around or the sub?

Yeah, under crossovers I can choose advanced and set each speakers crossover individually. I moved the sub around while leaving the SPL on the tripod which was positioned in the main listening position.

i was scanning over the pdf brochures of the models and denon never mentioned separate crossover controls on the 3806 brochure. i checked the online manual, and yup, your 3806 has that feature, and my 2307 doesn't have it. oh well, I miss my HK.

you're lucky your sub is easily moved. during the time I was using REW, I had two giant subs two move around, so I had twice as many locations and combinations to test.

budz, you seem to be convinced avaserfi needs a new sub. you push HSU, I'll push SVS. let's see who wins :)

i'll start:

avaserfi, I know the reason why your frequency response is so messed up, you don't have enough output from 40-80hz! the PB10NSD has oodles of output in that range! look at your chart, it slopes in the wrong direction! it should be going left not going right! :) SVS! SVS! SVS!

Right now my priorities are on treatments which should be taken care of next week. After I do treatments I will retest everything and post results again. I am actually looking at a used SVS sub waiting for the guy to call me back. Its an older model 16-46 CS. So I am hoping to find out more about it since its rather cheap.

I like both SVS and HSU but SVS subs look better and my girl actually likes the cylinder subs so I won't have too much trouble convincing but a BFD is much much cheaper than another sub if I can't get this used one. We will see! I'll make sure to keep you guys informed :).

put it this way ... treatments and BFD are for improvement :) what if there's nothing to improve? you need a new sub. you need a new sub.

seriously though, go for the treatments and BFD, it will go further down the road, whatever you upgrade.

Well by the time I am done I think I should have a sub per speaker so I'll end up with a 7.7 set up.

In all seriousness I do need to have to be some what reasonable because I do live in an apartment with people below me. They haven't had a problem yet but I do want to keep them in mind.

edit: Don't worry though I would LOVE another sub :-D

LOL...not fair! He's already looking at a cool 16-46! The review just happens to be about Hsu's and I just happen to own Hsu's. Coinkydinky. ;)

Now that I think about it...after I get a couple tri-traps, I think I'll save up for a brace of Ultras for the rear of our salon.:D

After talking to SVS about getting the other woofer they recommended doing an EQ first then picking up another sub. Since they say that I believe them. After treatments its a BFD :).
