Is paying $4,000 for a pair of speakers with one tweeter worth it?, confused

I have an 8200 cu ft room, and went from smaller or mid size speakers, to some pretty large multi driver speakers... The Paradigm Studio 100's. I needed something to be able to pressurize that room, and they fit the bill...

I say your in a medium to large room, and would benefit from something a bit larger. And seeing as your not going for a 5.1 or 7.1 system, I don't think spending that kind of money on a beautiful set of speakers would be out of line at all...

Make sure you run around and find everything available... I could easily make some suggestions...

Yup, not sure if gene can comment in

A better rephrase would be using a multiple tweeter speaker versus a single tweeter.

RBH is not open on the weekend, so if this thread isnt active Ill have to start a new thread.

I am not sure if gene prefers the line array, as he mentioned in seeing line array designs at CES and other places, however

A good discussion is warranted on the tweeter issue and whether a family room with people sitting on diferent lenghts as in a HT or regular theater is the reason for multiple tweeters as the directioanlity is pointed

If anyone misunderstands me, heres and issue

If 2 subs can be better than one, then why not more than one tweeter?

Anyways keep the discussions going

Definately. You should go for the speaker system that has the most woofers and tweeters in it as possible.

Get a few of these woofers in your house:

and some of these horn speakers:

This will blow away anything you can get from Axiom/RBH/B&W, etc. This is what you need man. End of discussion...

I thought I was going to be the only one who had a sub that actually killed people. Fine, go ahead and give away my cool secrets see if you get any kool-aid!

"If 2 subs can be better than one, then why not more than one tweeter?"

While it's hard to argue with Gene's answer, here's a few figures:

Wavelength of 20 Hz Tone: 17.2 Meters
of 60 Hz Tone: 5.73 meters
of 120 Hz Tone: 2.87 meters

of 2000 Hz Tone: 17.2 centimeters
of 10000Hz tone: 3.44 centimeters
of 20000Hz tone: 1.7 centimeters

The Top are the extreme ranges of sub, the bottom are extreme ranges of a tweeter.

The wavelength of the very highest tone a sub makes are longer than I am tall. The wavelength of the very lowest tone a tweeter makes is barely longer than my *head* is tall.

The standing waves that a sub can make are huge. Tweeters, not so much. Multiple subs help even out the nodes of sound pressure: that's why people have more than one sub.

The standing waves a tweeter can make are almost entirely smaller than your head. No need to smooth that out.

(Oh, and pretty much every audio system DOES have more than one tweeter - even a 2.0 system has 2; must audio systems have 1, or 0, subs.)

Great post about distances, Il wait until RBH gets back to me

If tweeters only go a short way, then maybe more speakers with tweeters rather than more tweeters in the first 2 speakers would be a better idea.

In gene's opinion, more tweeters aren't always better which is true.

The problem is running a stereo or even a home theater in 7 channel audio, means that different sounds will output in different places.

Most audio is from the Front 2 channels and in movies the Center , so naturally I wanted to work on increasing the distance and sounstage of those channels

I guess the reason for multiple tweets and woofers is to increase the SPL level, but maybe because people sitting in the theater are on different levels so the tweeters point towards them.

DJ sound equipment wouldn't be appropriate indoors, I am not sure if Gene is being sarcastic, I do note that he mentioned using RBH speakers for parties such as Columbian parties with an Emotiva

Amplifier

I think his first front 3 channels had multiple tweeters and woofers, ie the RBH T-30LSE and the T-1/R center. I would like to replicate that kinda setup, except the RBH T may be overkill.

Since RBH inwalls are similar to the T system it still begs the question of 4 woofers, 1 tweeter vs. 4 woofers 3 tweeters, perhaps gene can give us some more light.

Air Dispersion

Has anyone mentioned the movement of air in sound reproduction?
Low frequencies need much much more air to be dispersed than higher frequencies.

A mistaken quote, better hope the chiclet is the size of a tweeter!

I agree. Htholic will get a chiclet change if he persists.
Lol, No what happened was that gene had hit the quote which posts with a quote, but someone had just posted , questioning the design of a loudspeaker.

I want to know why the RBH T system has multiple tweeters if you just need one tweeter and then the multiple woofers balance out, Hey I want the best for my room atleast for the size and under 10k budget.

Maybe one day, I will host parties like gene hosts his Columbian parties with the Emotiva Amp and RBH speakers. What a excellent and quality way to teach your friends and women about the benefits of quality amplification and speakers running the Party!

After all the party will Rock and people will be like RBH who.
