i saw the visio 50" for 900 in the deals section which is pretty nice.

its only 1080i, but its still only 900 bucks, thats easily worth it.
i kind of wanted a bigger tv though, does anyone know of a decent tv that is bigger than 50" that is still really cheap. its doesnt necessarily have to be 1080p if the price is really low.

if i could get a 60" for around 1500 id probably buy that one instead

...you always get your money's worth. El cheapo has never been one of my credence.

The above comment applies to HDTV's built with the new technologies, LCD, Plasma. There are good ones and bad ones... and the investment amount can make a difference in what you get to enjoy.

Notwithstanding, this discussion, it remains true that a CRT RPTV can provide a very decent HD picture in 1080i and the big screens now cost a fraction of what they used to and provides great savings compared to the new technologies. If your viewing room is not exposed to great daylight lighting, this could be an option to consider.

I would not recommend the vizio. I have had two (one exchanged for the other) trying to go the cheap route and ended up spending about 60% more on a different tv while feeling like I got a much better deal.

I had a vp42 plasma and both were factory lemons as well as having horrible blacks and pretty bad picture quality in general. If you just want a cheap display get a vizio, if you want a good display dont.

What are your lighting conditions and how much are you looking to spend?

Also, what are you going to be using the tv primarily for?

There is no such thing as a 1080i plasma (or LCD or DLP). It's either 480p (EDTV), 720p, or 1080p. The Vizio would be a 720p set.

Perhaps he was referring to what type of input signal it can handle?

I made this same "mistake" when researching my HDTV (Toshiba 32HL66). Not that I'm not more than satisfied, but it is a bit unclear. 1080i looks just fine, thank you.

And, from perusing the local Sunday sale Flyers from the local big box stores, I'd venture to say that for a decent 50" direct-view set you're gonna have to up your ante somewhat. For around 1k, you might find some decent 42" sets.

Maybe around Christmas or next year if the price spiral continues, but not at this time.

I saw that Tiger Direct had a 55" Hitachi Plasma for $1800 plus ~$200 for shipping. I don't know if they still have it or not.

tv will be used for movies and normal tv viewing, ill have it in the living room which will be somewhat lit up during the day and dark at night.

if i waited i could spend more later but i really might have to buy a tv soon, and i dont really want to spend more than 1500 at the moment.

im considering that 50 inch visio just because its only 900 bucks. i could just move it into the bedroom after a couple years.

As was mentioned in the Deals section, Tigerdirect has last year's 50" Panasonic plasma (with PC input) for $1400. I've heard great things about their plasmas. It's not 1080P, though.

I had the Vizio 50" plasma for about a year - it was OK, but the black & shadow detail were pretty poor, IMHO. I traded it in (at Costco) at the first of the year for the Panasonic 50" (for $2K), and am thrilled with the PQ. ( It's now about $1500 at Costco - aarghh!) Panasonic and Pioneer have been pretty universally rated the best buys in plasmas for a few years now. In reality, all the major brand plasmas are pretty close. I'd be surprised to see the prices drop much more than they already have, but the competition is fierce in this technology.

Im with Geno on this one. Ignoring the fact that my plasma made the annoying sound and just on PQ after having a vizio, for about 6 months, which cost me 1050 after tax and when I returned it and got my sharp for about 1650 I felt like the sharp was a way way better deal for the money.

With TVs you can find a good deal and get a decent TV for really cheap or you can get a great deal and find a Great tv for a reasonable price.

This was just posted in the deals forums: http://forums.audioholics.com/forums/showthread.php?t=32460

Might be a little more in your price range and panny makes a good tv. I ordered my TV online and got it nice and quickly. I dont know about tiger direct but people here seem to like them.
