The sound quality is far better in this huge room...

Experimenting with different material from extreme bass music like Blue Man Group's The Complex "Persona", "Piano Smasher", "The Current"... If you haven't heard this album.. OH MY GOD does it have some deep bass tracks..
Persona is the first song I go to to test my settings.. amazing.. the pounding of those taiko type drums is so cool... they sound perfect.
I have some MTX tracks I downloaded that just push the realms of excursion that vibrate my house, and they are much more uniform now, clearer in every way.
But most importantly the way subs now blend with the mains is just seamless. I love good quality recordings like Diana Krall's "Temptation" or Ray Charles Duets album "Here we go again" with Nora Jones or "Fever" Natalie Cole, will really reveal the blending of your subs... They blend effortlessly.

Bass is tighter, cleaner, more visceral... seems much more dynamic and powerful. You can feel it spread throughout the entire room more, and pounding of the seating positions that just amazes me..

WOTW emerging scene is just plain freaky now.... Toy Story 2 opening scene is just wicked.. Serenity movie, when the ship is entering from orbit...
Just down right bone crushing bass....

I think its worth every penny, you could also do it with a BFD for cheaper and its totally worth it to use an External EQ... Now Im wondering if getting a pair of Ultra13's would be cleaner then what I have... hmmm

Very interesting.........hhmmm............sounds like I got a lot to learn. Just when I thought I knew it all already..........LOL!!!!!!:eek: Ed Mullen recommended a Behinger Feedback Destroyer that can be used as a Parametric EQ. Guess it would be worth my time learning more about it. The only thing is the Behringer does NOT have RCAs but uses XLR. Not sure how I could connect the Behringer to my receiver. Care to share some suggestions??? I can't afford the Velo system right now as the Behringer is less expensive.

so do you now have two plus/2s or do you still have one plus/2 with the plus?? would the EQ be beneficial for only one sub or is it only good when you have more then one?

your bass was huge before.. I can't even imagine how it could be better... maybe I will have to come and check it out again.. (might have to add the EQ to my list as well).. uhg.. the spending never ends :)

Yeah I got the Plus/2 and the Plus in there still, and the bass is so much more refined then when you came... to me it was sloppy and had dips and peaks all over the place, and I really had no idea that it could even get better, but looking back at it now, I can totally tell the changes. Hhehehe I thought it was great then too.. but WOW !! The bass is even and spread out all throughout the room... and you can see the flat response without any bass traps... nice..

I guess I figured after they changed the look of that metal grill to the fabric one, I thought it looked much more refined. You did see that right..?
Might want to take a look... http://www.svsound.com/products-sub-box-pb13ultra_altgrill.cfm its much nicer looking, and I was thinking about dual JL F113's, but forget that - 2 ultra13's for the price of 1 F113... cool

No I can't say that I have, and seeing as the Ultra hasn't been released... Im not sure there are more then a few people that can...

I have heard the F113... first in an audition at the local store, and I was recently at Milwaukee Bucks players house, and he had 4 - F113's setup in his HT room... that place was simply WOW !!!!!

Couldn't take pics... not allowed.. but here we have the delimmea of the fact that my wallet isn't sized properly to accomdate 2 of the F113's and I will put my faith in SVS at this point... I am already pretty darn happy with my current subs... but I am very confident that the Ultra13's will deliver.....

The BFD is a very potent and useful parametric EQ, but it's not intuitive to use and the manual is horrible. But once you get the hang of it you can do amazing things for the quality of your bass. It only has XLR and TRS inputs but that's no problem- cables with RCA on one hand and XLR or TRS plugs on the other can be purchased very cheaply (under $10) from various online stores like Musicians Friend.

When I moved from my old house I ended up not using the BFD but instead hooked up an ACEi SOS. The SOS is only a single band parametric, but it comes with a mic and is fully automated. It does a wonderful job in my current room, but perhaps in a "tougher" room one band wouldn't be enough. The next one I try will probably be either an Onix R-DES or the Velodyne.

Warp,
That's a pretty sweet FR curve you've got. I have been wanting an SMS-1, now I know I have to get one. When you describe the bass sound that you have, you are describing the sound that I want. Room treatments have gotten me most of the way there, but another upgrade can't be a bad thing, right?

Thanks guys.... Appreciate it....

I was totally surprised that my weird room came out so nice and flat without having to do Bass Traps... Not that it wouldn't improve the FR, but seeing as Im so flat in the whole area of all the seating positions... it really turned out great.

Maybe because of my weird high ceilings and openings to other rooms there is less possible areas to create strange in-room modal ringing due to standing waves.

Lets be clear here... the SMS-1 is an expensive unit, and there are other more cost effective ways of getting there like a BFD, but it is a very user friendly unit, and gives you results quickly...

I'm kind of surprised that you aren't getting more extension in your room with your SVS duo. I EQ'ed my sub flat but I think I prefer to run it a bit hot and end up using the contouring curves for movies. I also tried to do a bit of "manual" averaging for a couple of listening positions. I found that EQ'ing for one area often led to a really bad curve for the second spot. So I picked settings that worked ok for both (not as flat but overall a better response through the room)

Oh, I might as well mention it.....having you around is confusing when I post in the same thread !

hheheheh thats so true...

Warpdrive....

Im still messing around with some of the settings.. but ultimately I think with the amount of headroom I have with the two of these subs, Im going to tune them a little lower and have at it again... even if it doesn't come out as flat but tosses in a bit more down low... thats definitely the benefit of having 5 presets.. :)

yeah, do you have your SVSes tuned to 25hz (or both to 20hz)? the single plus doesn't have a 25hz setting ... so I'm assuming both's at 20hz.

because if you set one at 25 and the other at 20 ... see how the frequency response follows that of the higher tuned sub?

I haven't had time to experiment lately there mike... Im back to 75+ hours a week, and a single father with a broken foot.....

I have both of them tuned to 20 hz, but im going to pop them down to 16 and hope I don't get too much chuffing.. and fiddle with the sms 'n take some readings... For cryin out loud I really need a 36 to 48 hour day..

Don't it go by in a blink...
