My 2 cents would be to buy as much as you can now because you'll always have it. Otherwise in a few months, you may be thinking "geesh, if only I spent '$X' more back then, I could have the better & more capable sub now". At least that's how my mind is wired...LOL
Also..... people too often mistakenly link room size to subwoofer size as it relates to small or medium sized rooms and how large of a sub is necessary. For example, people will say.... "well, since your room is "X" size, you only need this small subwoofer "X".
I tend to disagree with that line of thinking because performance and capability is what's important...not spl. Heck, regardless of what size sub you buy, you're going to blend to subwoofer SPL to match your mains anyway...right? If you're interested in a sub capable of dipping down to the 10-15hz range, you're gonna need a
bigg'un for those capabilities. It's all about performance, not loudness

In fact, any cheap sub can be turned
too loud. On the other hand, to achieve the
wow factor you'll need performance.
