Do I realley need to up grade my sub??

I want to stay within 500-$800. I will spend more if there is a HUGE difference in proformance.

My 2 cents would be to buy as much as you can now because you'll always have it. Otherwise in a few months, you may be thinking "geesh, if only I spent '$X' more back then, I could have the better & more capable sub now". At least that's how my mind is wired...LOL

Also..... people too often mistakenly link room size to subwoofer size as it relates to small or medium sized rooms and how large of a sub is necessary. For example, people will say.... "well, since your room is "X" size, you only need this small subwoofer "X".

I tend to disagree with that line of thinking because performance and capability is what's important...not spl. Heck, regardless of what size sub you buy, you're going to blend to subwoofer SPL to match your mains anyway...right? If you're interested in a sub capable of dipping down to the 10-15hz range, you're gonna need a bigg'un for those capabilities. It's all about performance, not loudness In fact, any cheap sub can be turned too loud. On the other hand, to achieve the wow factor you'll need performance.

My SVS is a total entertainer. It also plays the piano at the same time. LOL

Well Im gearing up to grab a second PB12-Plus/2 for my HT room, before the Piano Black deal is over...
I really like the integration of a second sub in that room so much, I was completely blown away by just adding a Plus & I don't want to miss out on the Deal. My SMS-1 still hasn't gotten here yet, Hopefully tomorrow, otherwise monday..

You make some good points. And as a matter of fact that's the same way I think as well. I want the best thing available, however if I still want to remain married I need to stay in a reasonable budget.

That all depends on how much you can get away with spending without losing your spouse

In the <$2,000 price range, I definitely recommend you should stay away from the 'brick & motor' retail stores and buy from an internet direct subwoofer specialist. At each price point within that range....... you'll get a whole lot more sub compared to the 'brick & mortar' alternatives.

Since you listed $800 at the upper range of your limits, I'd recommend either the SVS plus or Plus/2 based on my SVS experience. Both are a bit over your range, but I cant help it..... my mind is wired that way....LOL

My mind is wired to think this way....... If you list $800 as OK.... surely your wife wont leave you over a couple hundred bucks more, right?

Yea, yea... I know...... but that's how I am.

This is how big the PLUS/2 looks in my 'sub corner' to give you a feel for it's size. And of course...... the Plus will be just a smaller version. Either will provide a big step-up in subwoofer performance.

In fact, when you re-watch movies you're very familiar with....... I think you'll be shocked at how different they sound with an upgraded subwoofer.

Dont let him fool you; he was willing to spend 1.5K on new speakers and we talked him out of speakers and into the sub. He has a 1.5K sub budget.
