Do I realley need to up grade my sub??

In my latest post I ask should I upgrade my main speakers to more expensive pairs, but have noticed that may of the feed back is to up grade my sub. Is was something I was planning to do anyways, but now right now.

Question:Will upgrading my sub make a huge difference? Right now my room is not the most acoustic. The family/theater room (17x20) is opened to the Kitchen (10x10) and Dinning room (10x13) all with a 10ft cielling.

SO with that said what subs are recomended???

I love movies (with gun fire and a lot of BOOM):D

I listen to all music (Reggae, R&B, Rock)

Help me out, I'm located in Tampa Fl and it seems that I'm limited to the more "high-end" bands, I only see the (polks, Klisch, and Velodyne)

Yeah, I believe you'd have a much better performance with a real good SW though. You could try to go the ID route and I'm sure you'll be pretty much satisfied. Either SVS or HSU will give you the best bang-for-the buck.
Did that a while back and no regrets at all...

Gook luck & keep us posted.

What model did you get? And how big of a room are you filling? I hear alot about the SVS but kinda skeptical...

Mine is a PB10 - ISD (newer version is NSD though).
My HT room is 20 x 10 x 9'h and there's plenty of bass!

Before I had a JBL PB-12 and tell you what, the "little SVS" literaly trounced the 12" JBL away...

Believe me, you don't need to be skeptical at all on SVS or HSU; both are excellent and pretty reliable brands. You'll find hundresds of owners here to confirm what I'm saying anyway.

Cheers!

You are looking at 4700 cubic ft; big but very doable with one good sub. Do not skimp on the sub. The best thing to do is to call SVS and HSU and ask them what you need. These guys are great and you can even talk to the owners. You cant touch their subs for the money.

Just an example of a sub similar to the Polk you own...

I tried to skimp on a sub and bought the Klipsch Sub 12. My review of it was one word..."cute"... needless to say I returned it after 2 days. I auditioned the SVS PB12 PLUS 2 and the Servo15 side by side in my home; It was a close battle. The best bang for the buck is the SVS all the way. That thing rocks and my listening room is 8,000 cubic ft!

A great sub will make a huuuuuge impact during movies. I definitely recommend upgrading to a killer sub because the impact of going from a Polk to say...... SVS will be dramatic.

How much can you budget?

I recommend internet brands. IE..... SVS, etc, etc....

I just ordered my SVS Ultra13 and can tell you that based off of my experience with working with them.. I would fully trust them. You don't work with some sales person... Rather you work with the people that designed the actual product. They are knowledgeable and extremely helpful.

I want to stay within 500-$800. I will spend more if there is a HUGE difference in proformance.

Outlawaudio.com has the lfm plus sub on sale for 499.00 +shipping. I just received mine yesterday and I'm really pleased. It digs low and has alot of impact. My room is 25x15x10 with an open kitchen and hallway. Good luck.

My suggestion would be stretch your budget a touch and get either a Cylinder sub from SVS or an HSU model....

HSU has some fantastic subs for the $$.

You have a rather large room, and you could use 2 subs in that space, or a really large one...

There is a B-Stock cylinder sub there
https://svsound.com/store/index.cfm?fuseaction=category.display&category_ID=12
That sub will be a monster..
Otherwise, SVS has an overstock on Piano Black PB12-Plus and Plus/2's
Worth every penny...

http://www.hsuresearch.com/products/vtf-3-ho.html

Any of those subs are great, and you could add another down the line...

SVS is great and very pretty.... excellent build quality... My Choice hands down...

Hsu, also great build quality but not as pretty in my eyes...

Warp, you and I need to become friends. What it must be like to sit in that leather chair next to the Plus/2. Welcome to the thunderdome. Also, I just have to say...that piano black finish is sweet looking.

Thanks Adam... :)

Yeah.... I too was skeptical, seeing as I would have to buy a product that I couldn't listen too or touch... But rest assured, I have seen a great many pictures and read many more reviews which led me to take that leap of faith.

You will not find products better for 2 times the amout of money you spend on these well reviewed Internet Brands...

And trust us when we say spend the extra money, with every little bit more you spend the quality is infinatly better.... :D

I have a room almost 2 times the size of yours... They (SVS) suggested at least a PB12-Plus/2 if not 2 of them... I thought to myself after hearing my Plus/2.... why would I ever need more then this...
Then I bought the Piano Black Plus, because of the deal (snatch up on that deal) and paired it up with my Plus/2 and OH MY GOD, it sounded so much better... amazing...

I personally would go with a single Plus either box(Piano Black Overstock Deal) or cylinder, and add another later down the line, when the addiction gets a hold of ya.... Or just get a Plus/2 like the Piano Black on B-Stock

I would go with a plus sub from SVS for that room size.

Just wait until July, Aug.. I should have my setup by then :) :) lol

I've been claimed? oh brother.. :)

And with your budget (if you can put a little more into it).. I would go with the Plus/2 Gloss Black that Warp was talking about. That thing is a beast. If you can't pull that then I would go for the Plus (which Warp / GlocksRock suggested).

O that's nothing.

My SVS is a total entertainer. It also plays the piano at the same time. LOL
