If you want true car sounds you can stop by my place. I have a Pro-mod with a 1840 HP, 706 cubic inch, nitrous breathing beast under the hood.

That real enough for ya? I still like the movie...CARS...

Any mods? Post in the thread! Come on, that thread is for any and all gear heads. I have respect for all types of car, not just Honda's. I Prefer Honda's because they're using more then just a massive engine to get their power. Don't get me wrong, I still loose it over the sound of nice V8, but 4 and 6 cylinders have cool sounds too.

I think The Fast and The Furious: Tokyo drift has some nice engine sounds, especially the Sylvia. As a mentioned before, the Initial D movie has really nice engine sounds, as well as a good surround mix(DTS: ES in Cantonese).

Where's the thread? I'll post. Sorry dude, but I can't stand that rice-rocket crap. I don't mind imports that are tastefully modified, but once they start slapping all those stickers and them big-*** wings on their cars, I wanna smash into them.

It's in the steam vent "Car Modding/Project Thread!"

Those big winged cars are not what I'm talking about.

I'm talking about Engine swapped, turbo'd and stripped Civics with 500hp and 1800lbs.

Even the "real" import guys don't like the sticker wing body-kit type idiots. Those guys are fools no matter what group you are in, except theirs...

The pod race from Star Wars episode 1 needs no real introduction.

Top Gun and Days of Thunder each received nominations for best sound achievement.

Good suggestions, but the pod race isn't "cars" and Top Gun is planes. I bought days of Thunder, but wasn't very impressed with the sound.

whats up, its my first time posting but i've been reading this site for over a year;

i'm amazed at how different my opinions are for certain dvds in terms of sound quality when i read these posts.

FAST & FURIOUS: TD left me in shock; i had never heard anything so powerful, the entire foundation of my neighborhood was shaking like a leaf, and i felt totally immersed in the movie;

DRIVEN: same thing here, total immersion, awesome bass, music was great i thought; if you don't take it seriously it can be a fun movie, and the PQ is IMO outstanding. the way they filmed the race sequences and crashes was also quite impressive...

its just strange cause it goes to show you, the results can be completely different depending on the system you test it on; i mean i consider these two to be "a step up" for sound quality period, not just in a racing movie.

A new possibility...

It's not out yet and it's technically not a racing movie (well actually not at all), but the sounds in the car chase in Death Proof from the Grindhouse double feature should fit the bill if the dvd release is anything like sounds in the theater I saw it in. It got me fired up.

Dude, read page one. I said no Fast or Furious junk!!! ;)

I bought Driven and thought it was OK. But the music was too loud. I want to hear the cars, not some stupid techno soundtrack.

But thanks for chiming in.

This might seem a little out there, but I'd recommend the Pixar movie "Cars." The race scene in the beginning rattles our windows when some of the cars fly by and the soundtrack is pretty fun, too.

One thumb down, one thumb up...

...So I finally got around to watching Days of Thunder. On the plus side it is still entertaining. The sound may have won an award for achievement, but it didn't rock my house. The surround usage was weak at best. The sounds from the front were flat-ish. But soundwise it still had a few momenents that briefly got my adrenaline to poke it head out from under the covers. FTR, I have the original dvd release from 1999, in case there are different (better) releases. Also, the PQ was pretty poor. Too bad, for a cheesy hollywood movie, it's pretty entertaining. Especially if you've even been involved in some kind of racing.

Yeah, I was pretty disappointed in DOT. The sound was meh. Probably great for it's day, but definitely not up to today's standards. Plus I hated how "ultra-letterbox'd" the picture was. I had to set my TV to zoom to even get close to filling up the screen.

Yeah, before I knew what anamorphic or enhanced for widescreen tv's were I always thought it was some useless feature I'd never need. Fast forward almost 10 years and now I really don't like those dvd's. Minor PITA and generally poor pq. Too bad, some of the ones I have are really good movies. I just hate to 'strain' to see them.

Hey all,

I just realized that I don't have any racing DVD's. (Pretty strange since I'm such a car nut). What is the best racing movie out there for sound? Please don't mention anything with the words "Fast" and "Furious" in the title. I HATE that rice-rocket crap. The only thing that would make me watch that Tokyo Drift movie is to see some hot Japanese chicks. (I LOVE Asian women).

Anyway, I digress. I was thinking Days of Thunder, but that's so old, I don't know how the mix is on that DVD. Have they done a re-mix and re-release like they did with Top Gun?

Let me know what you guys think.

Thanks.
The IMAX NASCAR movie had excellent sound:) (albeit a fools-screen presentation)

Days of Thunder sound is weak....

There arent many good movies that center around racing, but there are tons of movies that have good car scenes.

A few movies that include cool car scenes coupled with excellent sound...

Dukes of Hazzard
I Robot
Bad Boys 2
Matrix Reloaded
Transporter 1&2
The Island
Talladega Nights
Cars
Batman Begins -the 'tumbler' chase scene was insane
Terminator 3
Casino Royale

Those are a few off the top of my head:)
