Both right around $1200...any thoughts on better performance between the two?

room size..?

Both are great subs... I own the Plus/2, I bought this sub for its looks, but mainly that it was going into a huge room... that was the most important thing that I had great bass impact in a large room... 8200cuft.. the Plus/2 shake my house something fierce.. ;)

If your room is smaller, then the EP500 has gotten amazing reviews... only a few point better then SVS... on craigsub's Sub ranking...

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=768150

cant say which one is better then the other, You will probably get a bit more output from dual 12"

"The Axiom EP-500 and the PB12-Ultra are virtual ties. The Axiom is a little more articulate, while the Ultra yields an extra 1/2 octave deeper."
Now this is in comarison with a single SVS ultra not the Plus/2

YMMV

Good Luck

not to complicate the whole thing but i just ordered a hsu vtf-3 ho with turbo for 1104 shipped and it seems to have better reviews on the craigsub list( i was also looking at the plus/2 and ep500)

SVS Ultra

I think the upcomming SVS Ultra 13 will also be in your price range. Should be slightly smaller than the SVS Plus/2.

Why would anyone even compare Axiom subs to SVS. SVS will put any axiom sub to shame. So would HSU.

People would compare Axiom subs to SVS subs etc... because not everyone is so intelligent and all-knowing as you clearly are...

A little more detail about your auditioning of Axiom subs and any direct comparisons you've made with SVS would be helpful...

Wait am I allowed to quote myself??:p

All right, all right. I overreacted. Apologies to Gene and the rest of the forum for that.

But really, someone who has only three posts here does not have the credibility in my mind to make blanket statements such as the one I responded to. I can't think of very many who do. I know that I would not want people to believe me if I made such statements. I've never heard Axiom subs. I've never heard SVS subs. But come on, both brands have been reviewed favorably here as well as by other reputable websites. Without a whole lot of corroborative listening experience to back up such types of statements, this post is useless.

So what your saying is it does not matter if you have 3 posts or 134 posts. Not having credibility comes at all post count levels.

Although, in his 4th post he also made another blanket dismissal of Axiom, again with no detail. I think we're in "ax-grinding" territory.

It all depends on what "better" means to you. IMO, the Axiom will be tighter, the SVS may be louder. For the money though, the VTF3-HO w/turbo will best them both.

Of course, they all perform well enough that other factors start to creep into the equation -- aesthetics, size, etc. All three are very different in these regards.

Feel free to give honest opinions about any company, but if all you intend to do is bash somebody senselessly and with no detail or supporting evidence, we're going to ask you to leave real quick. This goes double for a newcomer.

Discuss the issues, but half your posts amount to nothing more than name-calling so far. Not a good ratio.

which Axiom/SVS/HSU models did you compare? did you compare them in the same room?

To be honest - I have an NSD 12/2 and I'm not really sure what another $300could get me by going up to the Plus/2. I have 18' vaulted ceilings and a wide open TV room at this unfavorable sub location point (I'm currently adding on to the home) and I'm not lacking in bass. My kitchen counters vibrate if I push the volume. If I were holding raves in my home then maybe I'd consider more.

I haven't heard the HSU turbo but it looks like hell to me.

If it came down between the 2, I prefer an extra coffee table than a drag racing motor blower.

If you're looking to price match - the axiom sub which is pleasing to look at EP400 "Newest Addition to Axiom Audio’s Popular DSP Subwoofer Line Debuts at Show; Short, Narrow Cabinet is Perfect for Master Bedrooms, Dens or Other Small Spaces" at $1100.

In the end, you'll make the call.

I basically had the same budget when picking a sub (~1200-1300) so I compared all the subs in that range from Hsu, Axiom, AV123, SVS, and others. I have a PC-Ultra and Plus/2, and read extensive comparos online from reviewers i would consider credible.

Comparing the Ultra to the Plus/2, i found the Plus/2 louder, but sloppier. The reviews i read put the Axiom on par with the Ultra, and the HO higher than both. HO>Ultra-EP500>Plus/2. Beware of reviewers that only post SPL graphs :)

I ended up with an Ultra, but if i had the same decision to make today, i'd have an HO w/Turbo. At that price, it's very tough to beat.

thanks abboudc. aside being aware of reviewers that only post SPL graphs ... you should also be aware of "audiophile" reviews that "decide" for you what you should be deciding YOURSELF.

different rooms have a profound effect on subs ... for example, my HT sub location was very flat without help. when I moved the sub from that room into my bedroom, I feel it is very boomy (talking about the Axiom EP500). I'm waiting for my SMS-1 to confirm what happened.
