SVS PB12-Plus/2 or Axiom EP500

thanks abboudc. aside being aware of reviewers that only post SPL graphs ... you should also be aware of "audiophile" reviews that "decide" for you what you should be deciding YOURSELF.

different rooms have a profound effect on subs ... for example, my HT sub location was very flat without help. when I moved the sub from that room into my bedroom, I feel it is very boomy (talking about the Axiom EP500). I'm waiting for my SMS-1 to confirm what happened.
Unfortunately, i didn't have the luxury of ordering all the subs i wanted and returning them, whilst still staying in budget. The downside of internet direct and 100+ lb subs.

Different spots in the *same* room have a profound effect on subs. Nothing a Rives Audio CD, Radio Shack SPL meter, and some graph paper can't tame though ;)

However, in the end, most people (myself included) take their own personal experience combined with input from others and make an informed decision. You just have to screen who you take advice from carefully, after all, it's your money and you have to live with your purchase.

I thought I was the only one to feel this way. ;)

Actually I'll be ordering a new sub by the end of this week & am trying to decide between the Hsu VTF-3 MK3 & the SVS PB12-NSD the PB12-NSD/2 is just a little more than I want to spend.

Leaning towards the Hsu based on price vs performance. I'm upgrading from an AR S108PS. So either way I expect a HUGE improvement.:D :D

Both right around $1200...any thoughts on better performance between the two?
It's apples to oranges....... the plus2 is twice the sub compared to the EP500 in many ways. Comparing the dual driver SVS to the EP500 isnt even fair to Axiom.

But really, someone who has only three posts here does not have the credibility in my mind to make blanket statements such as the one I responded to.
I think his comment was out of line, but with that said......What does post count have to do with anything?

At least being a new member, it's likely to assume he's not regurgitating opinions that he's read from others, and passing those opinions off as his own. One could argue a low post count as a positive. LOL

True enough Buckeye. All I meant was that it was like the second post and in my mind, I'm thinking who is this guy. I don't mean that all people who have low post counts have no cred. (after all, you have many more posts than I do), all I meant was that it made the worthless statement worse to me.

Again, I'd like to apologize to all for my overreaction. Senseless comments like this just burn me...

cjschrot, I want to get a new 5.1 system in a couple years, and I've been following audio product news closely. When it comes time to get a new sub, I'd consider many of the ones talked about so far.

AV123 subs were mentioned in one post. While AV123 is selling some subs right now, the company has two really promising ones in late stages of design: the MFW-15 and the BMF-1. Two MFW-15s will cost $999 ($599 for one, IIRC). I'm intrigued about having a pair of matching good-quality subs. I don't know the price of the BMF yet, but it might zoom past what you want to pay. You can read more about these on the AV123 site, especially in the forums. These and the new SVS PB13-Ultra are on top of my subwoofer list right now.

Thanks Chris,

I too was considering two of the lower priced subs vs. one at a higher price. Response from someone at SVS was that the performance was about the same, but in previous posts on this site there are some definite fans of the dual-sub setup. I will post a follow up when I finally decide what to do.

thanks again.

Axiom EP500 for me!

Both right around $1200...any thoughts on better performance between the two?
Got the Axiom EP 500 v.2 last week and have been Really Wow'ed with it's brute output power, finess, articulation and musical accuracy!!!

I'm sure I'd have been pleased with a top HSU or SVS, but the EP500 fit my floor plan best, fills my 5300cf home theater (opened to a 2000cf dining area) room with slab shaking, visceral impact bass that extends well beyond audibility (my hearing has been tested @ 0-15db threshold over most of the audible range) and never seems to strain or give up, always well controlled, musical with superb low bass tonality that sounds Right...I'm impressed (so are my neighbors, hehe)!!!

The folks at Axiom (Jean, JC, Alan and Brent) have been Extremely friendly, helpful and professional in adding my decision between the EP500 or the EP600, but I believe the 500 is all I'll need for a Long Time! Well engineered, well made and a Superb performer (now to get the rest of my HT up-to-par)!

Due to my minimal experience with subs, I can only quantify my comments and observations through my study of keyboard and instrumental music for 14 years (lower brass\bass major), a teacher of wind instruments for 5 years, an audiophile for 30 years and a lover of the art of music...forever!

If you need to consider a "smaller", more cost effective, but very powerful sub-bass system for your large HT setup, consider the EP500, you won't be disappointed!! :)

You're welcome. BTW, I learned since my last post in this thread that the BMF-1 subwoofer will cost $2000.

G'luck, and I'll look forward to hearing your decision.
