Has Anyone use these Cables?

I bought 2 - 30ft HDMI cables from Lenexpro.
http://www.lenexpo-electronics.com:80/
They are called Atlona Flat HDMI Cable, 24 guage.
They looked great and the specs looked great, BUT they aren't worth
a hoot if they don't work.
After running them in the wall to my new TV location I find that they don't work with either my Cable box or my DVD Home theatre (both are HDMI compatible and the TV has 2 HDMI in).
Anyone else have any problems with Lenexpro / Atlona HDMI cables?
I will be Phoning them ASAP to see what they say.
Signed pissed off !

Well, besides paying more than what you could have bought a bit thicker copper in the cable:

It is most likely not a cable issue but perhaps the cable box is not set for HDMI output even though you have that plug on it. And, there may be a handshake, sort of speaking. Did you set HDMI out on the DVD player? HDMI input on the TV?
I bet it is a setup issue someplace.

Cable issue?

mtrycrafts......Thank you for your reply.
I really hope it was just a 'set up ' issue but I had my cable service provider send a service tech to check it out. We connected another HDMI cable from the cable box to the TV and it worked instantly...no set up to do.
Can you tell me what you mean by...."And, there may be a handshake, sort of speaking....". I'll check further for any settings that I might have missed.
It does seem odd that both cables aren't working.

Digital transmissions, or rather hi-def TV signals use copy protection systems and the TV and cable box must pass this properly. One interrogates and acknowledges, sort of speak, that they are authorised, etc.

Since your setup worked on another HDMI cable, yes, it doesn't seem to be a compatibility issue, or setup, unless he did something to that cable box to send the signal on HDMI and you didn't catch that part of his call. How long was his cable? Does your cable still not work?
At times, the sequence of what is turned on may make a difference with this HDMI issues. Can you check your long cable with a DVD player and see if it works with it? That would more or less eliminate the cable issue.

HDMI cable issue

mtrycrafts....Thanks again for your advice.
The cable that the service tech brought was about 5 feet. (mine 30ft) I was the one that hooked it up (not the service man) and as soon as I plugged it into the TV it was working before I could get my head out from behind.
I have 2 HDMI cables and one of them also runs to the TV from the DVD home theatre and neither one works...(*same message ..see below) I have read all through the manuals and no mention of any special hoops to jump through...just 'plug & play'.
It's still not working :( Odd how both aren't working. The TV will acknowledge that there is a cable in the (HDMI) slot but shows a readout on the screen ...*check cable... then say's ...*no signal.
I will try different sequences of powering up etc. But still odd how both won't work.
The length of 30ft shouldn't be an issue (I don't think) as I've read on this forum of people having no loss with 50ft. Even so wouldn't I just get a poorer picture and at least some signal ?
I'll see what the seller has to say Tuesday. But mean time I might try and take it into a retailer and see if they will try my cable on a working system...that might be my best test for now. I don't know any friends that have any HDMI hook-ups.
Any more advice would be appreciated.....thanks.

possibly

Perhaps this is what I will need ????
http://www.lenexpo-electronics.com/ATLONA-HDMI-BOOSTER-EQUALIZER-HDMI-1.3-p-17113.html
As my cables are 10 meters (33 feet) same brand and place where I bought them. In the 'info' it does mention ...."If cable is over 30ft and you get no video or audio signal though HDMI"
Also maybe my equipment is not strong enough to send a signal that far (?). To top things off...it was my wife's idea about a 'booster'....what can I say
Any thoughts on the booster ??

Yes, it is strange that neither of your HDMI cables work at 30ft. It is 24ga wire and it should at least get some signal past.
Call monoprice and see what their return policy is if their cable will give you the same results, 'check cable.' Get their 22ga HDMI cable. I think it is worth the experiment and is inexpensive, around $50 for that length. I would not get that booster, yet.

Well.........after removing one of my 30 ft HDMI cables, form "in" wall installation, I took it to my Local retailer and asked them to conect it to a system. I got the same results...no signal and a 'check cable' warning.
I called Samsung and they were of little help, no surprise there.
Samsung support said that they don't recommend or support more than 3 to 6 feet HDMI and 6 to 8 feet in Component.
Not having a good time here :((
I plan on trying some different lenghts, plus a different brand.
If it's a issue with Samsung having to use short cables...well then it's back to the drawing board for the whole (newly furnished and finished) livingroom.
Including the new cabinet I built to house all my A/V equipment in it's new location.
Talked to supplier...they will replace them if faulty...too late for refund.
But I will have to $hip and if the cables are not faulty ...I'll have to pay to have them $hipped back to me.
Also talked to Blue Jeans...they are sure their cable will work, and were quite helpful. They have a new HDMI cable coming out later this year..."more power"...arrrrrhh...arrrrrrhh !
I have another post re: Samsung cable issues ?....no replies yet
Thanks for your concern

Don't let them take your money if they claim they work. If they won't work with you to solve your problem then give them a charge-back for not settling your problem.

This isn't the first time I've seen systems having problems with HDMI. What a piece of **** standard.

Indeed...isn't it the point of "standards" to be...I dunno...STANDARD?
Barring a fully defective cable in this case, Samsung shouldn't be telling their customers what they told DMcV. Either that or they should make a TV that can handle the spec's maximum length from a 24AWG cable. But what good are standards ;)

We know that front projectors work very well with those length of HDMI cables. If another brand that is perhaps a 22gs doesn't cure the issue, you know it is the TV.

update cable issue

Sorry I haven't updated sooner.
I tested the long run of 30ft with another brand HDMI cable I bought for $300 (and later returned) and yes I got a good picure with DVD via 30ft HDMI, the cable box was not as clear on 30 ft HDMI direct and did not like going through the HDMI-in (switch) of the DVD palyer. I read on this forum that "some cable boxes" (Motorla) will be better on component. My exchange cables from Lenexpo should be here tomorrow (Friday) so that will be the final test. After all said and done Lenexpo treated me quite fairly and allowed me to exchange (well after 30 days) for cables that I can use. It was an issue with the shape of the 'shoulder' of the cable and the housing of my equipment that did not allow the cable to seat deep enough in the socket.
It's sad that the industry didn't have the forethought to stick with a 'lock-in" type of conection like DVI. I noticed that some people are having problems with cables coming loose and falling out etc. given the weight of some of the HDMI cables. I hope to devise a solution on mine where I will run a taught string from side to side where the lower wall mount bolts are and support the weight of the HDMI cables from it. There is a cable holding strap on the back of my set but it is not in a good position for the HDMI.
I will post any news after I hook up my new cables this weekend.
Thanks to all for your concern.

It is becoming clear that the cable box is not putting out sufficient signal strength. If these cables work from a DVD player just fine, it is not the TV or the cable but signal strength.

All is good

Well ....I am impressed with the quality of the cable and service from Lenexpo Electronics. The HDMI fit very snug and deep into the Samsung's socket.
They exchanged my cables for what I asked for with no poblem and shipped them back no charge.
Also I was very surprised to see such a difference in the Audio level in HDMI compared to component. HDMI is MUCH louder and possibly clearer (?)
I now have my cable box connected via component and it's sound via optical to my sound system, DVD connected via HDMI.
All working very well :p
Has anyone else noticed the reception with the Motorola cable box on HDMI as compared to Component ? Personally I think component is better
Thanks to all who showed concern.

My motorola HD-DVR definately looks better over component. Then again, I have a 1080i CRT. However, my DVD player looks good over HDMI.

interesting ....

Thanks for the back up.
Motorola PVR on component is way better for me as well.

FYI I bought an HD DVD 'Plasmaquarium' it is a very good screen saver and provides a nice back drop when not watching TV. High quality, recorded in HD and widescreen. They have other DVD's s well...check it out > http://www.plasmawindow.com/
I bought a couple extra for gifts. Now you can have that "large aquarium" you always wanted but didn't want the hassle of feeding the fish :D
Enjoy

When people tell you that any ol' cable is as good as the next, let this be an example of how that's usually not the case.

In truth, a better cable that will facilitate these distances are usually not cheap. Another question I have that may have been addressed somewhere is, are you running the devices directly into the set, or passing it through a receiver of some sort? There are known handshake issues when you bottleneck your connections in this manner.

ATLONA Flat HDMI Cables

I am a dealer and sell quite a few of these cables and have never had an issue with any of them. I use them on my own equipment as well. Great quality too!

I know the original post is quite old, but the solution would have been to utilize an HDMI booster/amplifier to improve signal quality and strength.
