Help with Samsung Home theatre

Hello All I am hoping one of the experts on here will have some advice for me.

I have a new Home theatre in box samsung mode ht-q80. it is connected to a motorola cable box and then to a new JVC TV. All connected via hdmi cable. this model has a hdmi in and out.

Everything works well except for on occasion there is an overpowering loud static/buzzing noise, comes through all speakers--the only way to make it stop is to turn off the entire unit. Once I turn off the unit and turn it back on it is fine. It does this intermittently, some days not at all, some days a couple times in a viewing session. Has done it both watching dvds or just watching tv. I cannot attribute it to a certain time, or certain channel or dvd.

Samsung support has been no help so far, they want me to send the unit back, but before I do that, I was wondering if anyone would have a more simple fix???

Thanks in advance for any help!

From your description I'd say follow their advice.

Since it normally works well and does ithis on several sources, it sounds like the unit needs a looking into.

In their defense, intermittent problems are almost impossible to diagnose without having the unit at hand and, even then, it's iffy.

It is under warranty and you have the receipt, right?

A friend of mine has a similar problem due to his heating system's circulation pump. Every time it turns on his speaker's and cordless phones get a static type of noise.

I myself had a situation where I would get noise comming out of the speakers if my girl used a hand held electric blender to make mashed patatoes.

So did you put up with the noise when she made them or did you make her get the frozen crappy kind instead? :D

from what you have told us, it sounds like the system is defective. take it back to where you bought it for an exchange or something.

my experience with Samsung

I have much the same equipment.
Samsung 50" Palsma
Samsung TQ-85 Home Theatre in a Box.
I had to exchange my first DVD player (with the retailer) due to a loud hummm from it, not over the speakers. It's all working fine now...sort of.
I had a problem with a HDMI cable...no signal. I called Samsung they said their equipment will only support 6 to 8 feet of HDMI. WHAT !!! I tried a $300 30ft HDMI cable and it worked great. The one I bought from Lenexpo $128 (flat cable) didn't pass any signal. Now I'm waiting for my exchange cables so I can enjoy my system. ...soon I hope.
