Topic...im not talking about their sub BTW, what im trying to say is, how big of a comany are they? are they just local or nation wide with mutiple companiy?
It just suprise me that they are well known and recommended in this forum but they dont even have their own 1800 number and when i call them, one of the employee answer and and all he said was "this is Eric".
So is svs a popular brand like sony or pioneer ect?

they are so small that the guys there can be identified by their first names.

they're so BIG that even I know that Erik is Erik Korner. (and I'm from the Philippines)

no, they're not SONY, PIONEER big. but it looks like they get the job done. I prefer to talk to real people btw than the CSR's of the big companies.

They are big enough to have distributors in Canada, Australia, Europe and South America, but small enough that when I had a problem getting my SVS delivered, I was contacted personally by Ron Stimpson, the "S" in SVS.

My story on a small Internet Direct companies.

I have a a Rocket UFW-10 sub sold AVI123. When it arrived I was confused about some setup issues, I posted about it here on Audioholics. It was a Friday night. Within a couple of hours i got a PM from Mark Seaton who owns the company. He said that AVI tech support would be closed over the weekend and that he was in China on business. He gave me his cell phone number that would reach him there and to call him if I could not work things out on my own and he would try to help me. Hard to beat that kind of customer service.

Hi

I just bought a PB12 NSD/2 and a SCS-01 front set from SVS. Ron and Tom really made the sale by answering questions. Their customer service has been amazing. I can't say how big they are, but by the way they respond as well as the different departments/people etc...I expect they have a Disney style mentality with however many employees they have.

It could be 2 guys living in their parent's basements in Ohio for all I know but the products have really taken me back.

I know of Tom V, the V in the company, for going on 10 years:D He started on the Internet researching, learning, experimenting, knocking heads with other audio guys, then one day he was part of this SVS:D
It appears that they are successful if they have such distribution locations as mentioned here.

Is a purchase dependent on something about the company, just total curiosity, what?

You know....it just occurred to me.....the ID companies have a specific kind of costumer in comparison to the B&M stores.

Most(if not all) people that buy ID have done some research(sometimes just enough to be dangerous;) , but at least enough to know what an ID company is) and more than likely know a bit more than the average joe that steps into a B&M store(this is a generalization and in many cases the opposite is true). B&M stores get all walks of life, but ID stores get a more specific kind of person.

I don't know what this means, but it just got me thinking:rolleyes:

cheers

I'm incredibly happy. The thing is truely amazing.

Suggestions:
1. Make sure you realize just how big this thing is.
2. Have friends available to help you move it.
3. Make sure you have a SPL meter (that's where I'm at) cause I'm constantly tinkering w/ the gains and phase to get the best sound
4. Have your camera ready when it arrives.

Nick, Mark Seaton designs the newer subs, but Mark Schifter owns the company. ;)

But yes, the customer service is wonderful.

Yeah, I don't know why anyone would rather deal with a faceless mega-corp than a great small company like SVS, HSU, AV123, etc.:D

Nope thats Sound, so aparently its Mark Schifter (Tom) V Sound.

Sean
Mark L. Schifter aka MLS is the owner of AV123.com, Mark Seaton is working with/for him designing a couple subs. They, meaning one of MLS's other companies called SAC (Sound Art China), at one time built the enclosures for SVS but that was the extent of their working relationship as I understand it.

Tom V., Ron S., Eric, and Ed Mullen all work for SVS. I'm not sure what the 2nd "S" stands for.

The second S is sound.
Like I said before, there website is SVSound so its kinda obvious. As far as the names go I just put together what was in the thread before. I have no clue who anyone is over there, I know I got an E-Mail from and Eric.

The beauty of a small company is the ability to provide superior customer service. That is there first stage of having a fighting chance against the big companies. Unfortunately; as companies grow, the pristine costumer service usually is forced to take a back seat. It is a sad but true piece of business. I am certain that as the smaller companies are greeted with success; you will see less and less personal involvement and interaction to the consumer. This is where using a track-proven dealer comes into play. When was the last time you called or emailed Honda because you had an issue with your Accord? This is the reason I am not concerned with the costumer service issues noted against Paradigm. Although it looks like they suck; my dealer has been at the same location for 60 years and stands behind everything he has ever sold weather he still carries the product or not.

CCheng,
Would you prefer to get an automated recording when you call SVS asking press 1, 2, 3, etc. or to talk to a real person?
I agree, I was kind of supprised the fist time I called SVS, but I have been happy with their customer service and my puchase of a SB12-Plus sub.

In the scheme of things, SVS is probably pretty big from an internet direct company that manufacturers and assembles products in the USA. They won't sell as many as Sony or Bose or as many subs as Velodyne, but they have their niche. I have found that the big electronics manufacturers like Sony, Pioneer, Bose, etc. tend to build cheap, plastic, HTIB speakers which appeal to the masses. Specialized companies like SVS appeal to people who are willing to do a little research and care about sound quality, performance, and value more than name recognition.
