Cuban that is.:p

I figured I'd give it shot since we can them over here. Anyone else ever had a chance to try one? I've never smoked...nada, nothing, much less tried a cigar but I've come to actually enjoy it. I've found the Romeo NO. 2 to be the smoothest($5 per cigar) that they have available here. Had a older gentleman who is here as a contractor give me the run down on proper cigar etiquette.

Now if I can just find a way to get a couple home.;)

I've never had a real Cuban, sadly. I've had some Dominican stogies that I liked. If you're still looking for something to buy back here in the states (legally), pick up a La Gloria Cubana. They're around $7 a whack here in Michigan.

Hey Jax,

The factory is less then 15 minutes from my house (La Gloria Cubana), my best friend owns Miami Cigar and Company (they might have a site, not sure, I don't smoke)anyway he says the best cigars now come from Santo Domingo and Nicaragua, they're grown from Cuban seed. Cuban Cohibas, one of the more famous cigars, have been plagued by shoddy manufacturing and second class leaves. He's got a line of cigars from Africa that always get top ratings in Cigar Aficinado (spelling?). He owns Don Lino and a few others, Don Lino supposedly really smooth, all from Cuban seed. Miami is known for Cuban coffee and cigars specially Little Havana near downtown. Oh be very careful buying Cuban cigars, the ones you find in the states tend to be expensive fakes.

I used to get Cuban's by the box. Lot's of Canadians vacation there and some will bring back cigars reasonably inexpensively. I didn't stick with it because I'm not really a cigar and single malt kind of guy.

Cool, I was looking around the net for alternatives available in the states.

I'm sure it's a much more pleasurable experience with an adult beverage.;)

Hey Matt,

I don't know if Miami Cigars and Co. have a site, if they do, check them out. Don Lino line gets top reviews.

What you need to do is get your butt down here to Florida so we can take you out to a few places for Cuban coffee and a good cigar. :D

Take you over to Tampa where they're rolled fresh on the thighs of an old Cuban senora.

EDIT: just one of the places in Ybor City, Florida

A coworker of mine gets Cuban Cohibas on a periodic basis that he sometimes shares with me (I don't know how he gets them and I don't ask!), but I don't like them nearly as much as my favorites, Pardon standard (maduro wrap) and Arturo Fuente Hemingway. The last Cuban Cohiba I had from him was very bitter, and its companion (he gave me two) had a tobacco worm, which is the first time I even knew of their existence. Fortunately, I was almost out of cigars, so I cleaned out the humidor to make sure my unwanted visitor didn't leave any progeny to infect the next batch of stogies. The Padron in particular is a great smoke (maduro or natural wrap-both are great), and it is one of the best values in cigars today, IMHO. I have heard good things about the Punch and H. Upmann Cubans, but only from word of mouth and reviews in the cigar magazines. BTW, the Padrons are excellent with a nice Pinot Noir-I smoke mine with either Melville (Santa Ynez valley, CA) or Husch (Anderson Valley, CA) Pinot Noirs.
