White van speaker salesmen.

Give 'em a break. Yeah they're trying to rook people but it's only for what an unimformed and unscrupulous person is willing to part with in the course of buying what they perceive to be stolen property. I'm just saying that AH members might be overly sesitive to audio fraud.

For the most part men are targeted. Women are less likely to want better speakers and they are less likely to give 2 lunatics driving a white van the time of day.

Those guys are never gonna drag you through the court system and make you pay, nor is the commodity in question a neccessity like a car or a roof. I think we all know who I'm talking about here.

Just to be clear let me say that I am not condoning con artists. Gene said that he was threatened by one of these guys and that to me is a whole different issue.

Like most people these guys get up and go to work. Lots of people lie for a living. Some are just better at it than others. On one end of the spectrum is the pan handler and on the other is the politician.

LOL, I can't wait to have my first White Van encounter!

I don't know your reasons by starting a post like this but what do you mean by, "give them a break"? You want us to actually buy something from these clowns?

I don't have to lie at work and for the people in those jobs, how do they look at themselves in the mirror everyday? Just because many do doesn't mean I should tolerate it.

.....and I can't stand lazy bums or politicians either so why would I cut con-men any slack?

Of course not. My reason for starting this post is pure entertainment value. You guys are a sensitive lot. These guys don't prey on the elderly. What would Edna (elderly woman) want with Long Throw Woofers? These guys prey on stupid young men who are more interested in stolen goods than they are in quality audio, for the most part anyway. It's kind of like tuna fishing. Every so often an unsuspecting dolphin has to take the hit.

There are people who are much more deserving of our more violent urges. About 15 years ago I sold these things for a week or so. I admit it. I posted this early on in a couple of threads. You can find it easily enough cause they were like my first posts. At the time I knew nothing about audio, not that I'm a pro now. I've only been interested in A/V for a couple of years and have been reading AH for about 1 year. I started getting info on the forums a couple of months ago. I hope this isn't going to prompt members to give me bad advice.

I think these guys (buyers and sellers) are hilarious. The seller is always selling allegedly stolen speakers. He knows that the public at large isn't on their way to BB with a speaker sales flyer in hand. Not many people are in the market for speakers, but stolen speakers? Now that's different. People make time for stolen speakers. How is that not funny? If my mother came home with what she thought were stolen speakers and it turned out to be a box of rocks I would have to laugh. "Ma...., why are you buying stolen goods Ma?"

Oh, I see... It is OK to rip people off. All you need is the proper justification. So if Scam Artist Extraordinaire gets a chance to sell his "stolen" speakers to an old woman on disability who is buying them for her grandson that she loves more than her heart medicine, they won't? They're like Robin Hood are they?

Come on, justify your own (and others) actions all you want but don't expect any of us to agree with it. While you may have represented your goods as "stolen" (which is a fabrication no different than saying these 'cube' speakers will transmit full frequency), most don't. Most (that I've heard of) represent them as "extras" that they have to get rid of and can't be sent back. While that smacks of "stolen", it gives the unwary (and perhaps even moral) consumer an "out" to believe that they aren't. A scam is a scam is a scam. Blaming the "scamee" does not absolve the guilt of the "scamer".

I agree with all of your points. Absolutely no arguments. Right is right. I had no intention of getting anybody angry so please accept my apology. I was striving for humor not the condonment of ripping people off.

Sincerely,
Alex

Alex i understood right off that you were only making light of the situation, thats cool too but when i wrote that con men prey on the stupid & elderly it applies to white van con men as well.

People are not born criminals & experienced con men, they are taught & groomed for bigger & more violent scams & the school of the white van speaker con is a perfect breeding ground for young con men to hone their skills legally before they move on to larger more complicated cons which do take place with the elderly as prime targets.

I spent 2 years of my life surrounded by con artists & every one i met no matter how young or innocent they came across wouldnt think twice about bashing my grandmother in the head for her retirement check because its easier than holding a job, dont think for a minute that the seemingly innocent speaker scam does not lead many to bigger crimes.

I really picked the wrong topic to make light of. As anyone might be able to imagine, I do it in real life too so this isn't new ground for me. I'll skip right past any defensive posturing because I don't think any good would come of it.

I consider this forum an invaluable source of info and I'd like to continue to be able to use it as such.

Thanks,
Alex

Understand, I wasn't attacking you personally, it was only the position. I got the humor behind it but for the benefit of the casual browser, a clear statement had to be made IMO.

I consider this forum an invaluable source of info and I'd like to continue to be able to use it as such.
You'll have to do something much worse than this to be ostracized around here so no worries. However... do you have a position on cables? Power cords? Magic rocks? How about green markers? Intelligent chips? Cable risers? Chose your answers carefully young padawan! :p
