Spelling goes to credibility in my opinion.
Does anybody really equate spelling with credibility?

I dont see the connection, look at all the people in this thread telling us what spell check they use,all that proper grammar shows me is that some people use spell check,i would rather see a person spell & post in their own words using their own spelling because i know it's the person im talking to instead of a program designed to make them look smarter, when i want or need info i want it from a real person, not something they looked up on google & repeated then spell checked.

For me credibility comes from how people come across & weather their posts are related to the love of music & having fun with the hobby not who has the best spelling or can use the biggest words.

I do. So does the public at large. Look at (Dan Quale?). You know the guy who messed up the spelling of Patato on national TV at that spelling B. He's probably still bumming over that one.

highfi, consider that when I got here I was only able to see words. That's it. It's a first impression and even though those are often wrong they do exist. After a while I could see that some members had a really awsome product knowledge base, others had great technical info and some had not so well hidden agendas and biases. Even though I am a 2 finger keyboard wacker I make an effort to get it right because when I need a question answered I don't want the person with the answer to think that I'm too lazy to get it right. That goes for my spelling and my equipment. In your case I don't care how you spell, I've looked at your system pic's. That speaks a language of it's own.

Here's my last point. It's easier to read and understand things that are written by someone who minds their p's and q's. I'm still using a dictionary for the big words.

Firefox 2.0 has a spell-checker built in so that anything entered into a text box (IE a forum post) is spell checked. Nothing extra to download or install.
For IE users there is ieSpell. It integrates seamlessly on my XP computer.

not really, I still prefer to read a post that is close to being spelled right, but I am not to broke up if a post has a lot of misspelling (base for bass does get me though), I usually don't even notice unless it is really bad spelling.

and as Mark Twain once said: "anyone who can only think of one way to spell something is lacking in imagination." :D

I'm 46 and I still remember that we did go over those "worst mistakes." Too or to or two, then and than, hear, and hear. Are we saying that they don't do this anymore? Shame on our system. But, this is kind of a techie board. Spelling is not the first thought.

That entire exchange made me LOL but to my way of thinking he misspelled it once. :)
Hear as in 'hearing' and Here as in 'this place'. I meant to write 'hear vs here' to illustrate a common mistake but I didn't proof-read the post thoroughly enough. Were there any spelling or grammar mistakes in the post? Nope.
