Receiver!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why, oh why, can't people spell receiver???!!!! This is so frustrating to me. We all have them, and we all use them - yet it seems like over half of us can't spell it. I looked at the new posts just now and I found 3 threads in about 10 seconds that have receiver as reciever. I see this all the time, day after day.

Maybe I expect too much out of people, but when I see reciever in over half the threads that talk about one, it makes me want to leave the forum instantly. I'm not asking people to go out and learn quantum mechanics. I'm asking that you learn how to spell a 3 syllable word with 8 letters.

Spelling goes to credibility in my opinion. It's right in the category title: Amps, pre-pros, & RECEIVERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Repeat after me: "I" before "E" except after "C". "I" before "E" except after "C". I know there are exceptions, but it works in this case.

Maybe we need an abbreviated version to help everyone out. People seem to be able to handle TV and DVD and VCR and AMP. I suggest that if you can't spell receiver that you go with RCVR or RCR or similar. Or maybe just call it the heavy thing. If you say you need help choosing a heavy thing then I'll know what you mean.

OK, end of rant. I'm invoking a self-banning. Thank you and everyone have a nice day. :)

I before E except after C

as in neighbor or weigh

Now, you look like you need a large mug of coffee :)

relax...

put on some nice music, sit down in your comfy chair, sip a nice brandy and, if the music doesn't sound quite right, adjust the base and trebble controls a little. :D

What do we call my beloved 34 year old Marantz 2270 stereo receiver, which has NO video capabilities?

Just simply an "R"?

Being in the discovery phase of practically everthing here I not long ago noticed a spell checker in the corner. But it wanted me to download something. I have serious reservations about that kind of thig. Does anybody use that?

Every few months a thread turns into a discussion of spelling and grammar (note 'grammar' not 'grammer').

English is difficult, even for native English speakers, but seriously most people could do better. Around 8th grade every English class should include a lesson on the most common mistakes:
- too vs to vs two (one of my biggest pet peeves)
- lose vs loose
- their vs there vs they're
- your vs you're
- hear vs hear
- its vs it's

It's not uncommon to see things like 'Their are two many people hear' and that is just plain unbelievable! I once received an invitation for a special sale at the Room Store and it had a handwritten note that said 'Love to see you hear'. Now how is anybody going to see me 'hear' - make a loud noise and see if I react?

Firefox 2.0 has a spell-checker built in so that anything entered into a text box (IE a forum post) is spell checked. Nothing extra to download or install.

Here’s a tip that might come in handy. Copy the text and then apply it to Goggle image if the text matches the image you have a winner.

I always type is in Microsoft® word and then copy and paste.

Oh I almost forgot, “centre” :D channel sounds better when matched with three equal loudspeakers.

I have no idea of what Fiefox is......yet. I was really asking if anybody used the spell checker on the reply page right under the log in name. I'm not opposed to downloading it or anything. I just thought I'd ask first.

Here's an idea, lets put a ho-****ing-gillion Exclamation points in our thread title.

.....Yeah, that makes me look super-literate. Seriously, chill.

Now, everybody take a spelling lesson from Brian Regan.
