I have their greatest hits, I didn't know they're still cutting records.

Loved 'em in the '70s, this is pretty tepid stuff.:(
Um... I thought tepid stuff was America's stock and trade.

I thought their "new" CD was a greatest hits package. Does it have new material on it also?

It's a two-disc package; the first one is new material, the second is a live set of some of their greatest hits.

Also, I agree their original stuff might be described as "tepid" to those whose tastes run to flashier music, I always liked their acoustic material for its catchy guitar/harmony work. My favorite air guitar song of all time is their "Sandman":)

Believe it or not, they have done about 20 albums since the 70's (see www.allmusic.com) and have a new one coming out. They may have never named their horse, but they keep the "hits" coming.

Tepid or not I really like America. I like their sound, Tin Man brings back lots of great memories also Ventura Highway. Not only that, but it was fun learning their stuff on guitar, simple yet melodic.

Gave me a chuckle. I wonder how many people got that reference.
Funny but I never picked up on that until now. Although, hell, half the songs from that era had similar "messages," perhaps I was just imune to it.

I think a lot of us were , er, rather oblivious to a lot of things in those days. They made some of the best "feel-good" music of the day, IMHO. Besides that, it was easy to sing. ("A Horse with No Name" was probably the only totally monotone hit song ever!):D

Maybe someday they'll name that damned horse. Fleabag, Seabiscuit, Ol' Nag, El Kabong, anything.

Been through the desert on a horse named El Kabong. No, I don't think that would work. :)
