@little wing I *think* (don't have a unit yet) that the "low freq" is just another PEQ result that you can select or copy to "manual" just like "natural", "front", etc.

This became very interesting to me a few weeks ago when I was calibrating levels with the Yamaha's internal pink noise. I noticed that when I went from my left speaker to the right speaker, the "tone" of the sound changed. I went back and forth several times; night and day difference. I don't hear it with content, but with the pink noise, easily heard.

So WTH? My room is symmetrical. Speakers are symmetrical about the listening position. My room is also treated out the wazoo. I made sure that the tweeters and mid drivers were working on the speaker that sounded a little "darker" (the right speaker). Anyway, it dawned on me; it had to be YPAO. So if my room is symmetrical and treated, do I really want YPAO to mess with frequencies above 300Hz or so? I don't. And that's what I hope to gain with the new "low freq" PEQ; lay off the higher frequencies and let them be what they are.

I believe that most affluent users of room correction will tell you not to mess anything above the transition frequency, I certainly don't. Low frequency is the biggest issue beyond just a bad speaker, and room correction usually can't fix that any way unless it has a smooth directivity and then manual EQ seems to be the preferred method.

Seems like you get that now, so good luck on taming those issues.

Thanks @everettT, I didn't "get it" until very recently unfortunately. Above I mentioned the deal with different tonality between speakers when playing the pink noise for calibration. That elicited a "Hmmm" from me.
Then, more recently, while researching my next AVR to get me to 7.2.4 from 5.2.4, I started reading about Audyssey and Dirac. I read that it's common to limit Audyssey's scope of influence to not go above 500Hz. That's when the light bulb went off; of course! I get it! Give me YPAO "low frequency" please!

The other thing to consider is that maybe your speaker NEEDS equalization and you wouldn't want to limit YPAO or Audyssey/Dirac because of the speaker's native frequency response.

I have the unique benefit of having Klippel Near Field Scan data for my speakers. Not just the speaker model, but my actual speakers; I lent them to the guy doing the measurement. See them here:

So, although my speakers could benefit from some gentle EQ above 500Hz, I feel confident that I'll be just fine leaving the bulk of the work for 500Hz and under.

Any speculation as to what Yamaha will be pulling out of their hat for the next line-up? 48Gbps HDMI for sure. Other than that, what could it be?

I don't game on this rig so the 48Gbps HDMI doesn't interest me. I just ordered an open-box A8A from a big-box store so that baby could easily go right back if there's a compelling reason to wait for either something that I've got to have from the new line-up, or just lower prices on the current line-up.

Thanks @AcuDefTechGuy ! Good news!

Bad timing for me since I pulled the trigger on an open-box RX-A8A yesterday. Sigh.
Well, at least you probably got it for a lot less than the new Yamaha models coming out. They didn’t tell me prices, but I think it’s safe to say the prices will go up.

I just would hope for a 5.1.4 model that is cheaper than 7.1.4 if possible.

But I intend to run my 2060 until it fails. :)
