Thanks
@everettT, I didn't "get it" until very recently unfortunately. Above I mentioned the deal with different tonality between speakers when playing the pink noise for calibration. That elicited a "Hmmm" from me.
Then, more recently, while researching my next AVR to get me to 7.2.4 from 5.2.4, I started reading about Audyssey and Dirac. I read that it's common to limit Audyssey's scope of influence to not go above 500Hz. That's when the light bulb went off; of course! I get it! Give me YPAO "low frequency" please!
The other thing to consider is that maybe your speaker NEEDS equalization and you wouldn't want to limit YPAO or Audyssey/Dirac because of the speaker's native frequency response.
I have the unique benefit of having Klippel Near Field Scan data for my speakers. Not just the speaker model, but my actual speakers; I lent them to the guy doing the measurement. See them here:

So, although my speakers could benefit from some gentle EQ above 500Hz, I feel confident that I'll be just fine leaving the bulk of the work for 500Hz and under.
