Denon X6700H audio cutting out and changing inputs after upgrade?!!

I have a X6700H I have been very happy with for 5 years. About a month ago there was a upgrade and I took it. Everything has been fine until about a week ago and the unit keeps changing audio formats and I went in to reset it back to factory and now after speaker set up where it sees and test my fronts when it comes to doing Audessy it says I have no front speakers. I can jack with it and get it running then do something like raise the volume and it goes into silent mode again. Boat Anchor? If so what else to buy?

Upgrade or a firmware update? Maybe try several microprocessor resets in a row.....

It sounds like it has an internal problem. I would try up to three resets and see if that solves it. it is only five years old and that is the age my AV 7705 failed. The service center said the two board it needed were NLA, which is a disgrace, so it went to the recycling center, and its replacement 7706 gave trouble after 3 months, so it is back for warranty repair. However, I have bought and AV 10 and I am very pleased with it. It has a much better build quality. On the whole the build quality of these AVRs and AVPs is in general is not very good in my opinion.

Let is know what happens. If you can't get it working try and send it in for repair and document the response from a Denon authorized service center.

Well, if it is broken, at least you had 5 years.

I think 5-10 YR is about all we can hope. Beyond that is just extra.

Generally as a consumer doing multiple microprocessor resets is the best you can do other than taking it in for analysis/repair....

Forgot to ask, the fronts don't operate off an external amp, do they? A reset would need you to go back into amp assignment for that....

And that is an absolute disgrace and completely unacceptable. That is not the ethic I was brought up with! If that is true then we need a regulation that all electronic components have to be built with auto grade components at least, or we will really pollute the world. If what you say is true then it needs to change fast and if necessary by force of law. Most of the equipment in my systems are a lot older than 10 years.

While admirable, generally not the way of consumer electronics. We can't even get repairability/parts availability as a standard....and the current US regime isn't likely going to help as they won't be "believers" in such restrictions on ripping people off.

In that case people might just as well buy a cheap disposable soundbar at Target or Walmart and this hobby will die.

What do you think is an appropriate time for a critical piece of AV gear to last? These things are not bought for shirt buttons, and they should last longer than five years. Not only that, but there should be an expectation of service. Not take it to the recycling center to be dumped in Africa. I have gear in the system 60 years old. That is real value.

And yes, my AV 10 does sound better, and the reason is better design and build quality. There is no magic about it. It has superior design and better build quality.

Would be nice if they all can give us 10YR warranty.

When it comes to complex digital components, the best right now is 5YR warranty (like Yamaha, Marantz, Bryston). Many offer 1-3YR.

When it comes to just analog amps, the best right now is 20YR (Bryston) and 7YR (ATI). Many amp companies offer 1YR, 2YR, or 3YR.

For electronics INSIDE speakers and subs, they usually offer 1-3 YR warranty.

It has been THIS WAY for the past 50 years.

NOTHING has changed in terms of warranty period.

Regime, or not- consumer electronic reliability stopped being a major goal of the manufacturers a long time ago. The general rate of failure was about 1% in the late-'70s and if it's les than 2-2.5% nor, I would be surprised. As prices dropped efforts to make reliable products decreased because replacing less expensive equipment became 'acceptable', by consumers. It's a manufacturer's fault when they produce unreliable products, not the fault of the government in another country.

FTC has had less interest in consumer complaints and performance requirements for a long time, under many administrations. Your 60 year old gear is also far less complex- none of it has software that can glitch. OTOH, it's far easier to repair and parts are generally available. Complex microprocessors that are designed specifically for AV equipment and not for general purpose won't be available because it's impossible to guess at the number that will be needed after something has been discontinued and making a lot of backup parts will bankrupt the manufacturers faster than buying companies because someone has money burning a hole in their pocket, like Massimo.

I did buy it new and I do not have any ext amps on any speakers. Last night it did it again (it came on fine but when I raised the volume it cut out) and before I hit the re-set I turned it off then back on and it worked the rest of the night. At least the standby red light burns steady now and is not flashing? I don't think it is gonna last. I have started looking around-maybe a used Denon x37000H?
