It is amazing how things do not change. We have a young wife with her husband carted off to El Salvador and put in a cage based on a Tattoo.
Beethoven's only opera Fidelio is this exact same story, basically. So things don't change.
Fidelio had a recent superb production at the Met, starring Lisa Davidsen. She had the starring role as Leonora, wife of the wrongly imprisoned. In this story she finds her husband and rescues him.
This was only available on Met Player for week.
I have contacted the Met to see if that production can be made permanently available.
This is a truly gripping production superbly performed and produced. Both video and audio were superb, especially the audio.
And of course since Beethoven is the composer, the musical score is better than any movie or Broadway musical.
