But look at the little being done to curb him by the Democrats- the Republicans are gutless, so they can't be relied on for any help. I have said and posted for far too long (as have others)- Congress needs to be retooled and they have too much self-determination. Asking for term limits is like talking to a wall. Telling them? Who can do that and get any response?

Voting for this is like the scene from Animal House, where Otter tells Flounder "Hey- you can't go through life blaming others for your mistakes. You f&cked up- you trusted us". The voters trust politicians (a really effing bad idea) and the results screw everyone, every time it goes bad.

Legislation needs to be more thinking, less feeling. That's almost impossible with problems like guns, drugs and some others because so many people die from them.

Our rights need to be protected, that's not up for debate, but when somoene like Charleton Heston and Wayne LaPierre distort the intent of the NRA to grow it into a herd of gung ho idiots, it loses any distance between themselves and any other large group that poisons peoples' minds.

However, the thug life that looks so appealing on TV/movies/video games has caused a lot of the killing, the drug cartels/gangs and smaller level criminal activity cause more and it's not just access to guns, it's their effectiveness as threats and as a means to 'get the message across'- this is all well over 100 years old.

Until people take a second to think about the consequences of what they're about to do with a gun, it won't change and that applies to buying/stealing/picking up a gun. Unsecured guns are the goal now, more than money and other possessions when someone rifles through a car- it happens all over.

I don't know if you watch news fron Europe, but they're having more shootings and stabbings too, even in places where guns have been banned or restricted.
I'm not commenting on the lack of the democrats more than the excess of the drumph. His support by the republicans just amplifies the bullshit.

The whole funding thing is at the root of course. Them reigning themselves in, not a lot of hope there.

We actually need some progressive legislation, solving problems, current issues with current solutions rather than some vague reference to more racism/restrictions/less public financing.

Our rights are not being protected by the maga in any respect.

More controls on guns are better than less.

more or less the same thing here in 'Hillbilly Pennsylvania', Pa Liquor Control Board, runs the State run liquor stores. Thankfully I'm 30 Mins from tax free Delaware and Total Wine ! Just bought 2 cases of Seagrams Vo couple weeks back, should last me to months end..... ;)
Unfortunately for us, we have provincial trade barriers. When I travel to my buddy's log cabin just over the Ontario / Quebec border, I'm not supposed to bring any beer / alcohol from Ontario with me. I'm supposed to buy it all in Quebec. We do stock up in Rapides-des-Joachims before entering the wilderness but they could search our vehicles if they wanted. There have been cases in the news of people being stopped for crossing the provincial border to save money on spirits.

The provinces are currently working on some deals to reduce trade barriers, but it's not that simple. Newfoundland's economy for example can no longer survive on the fisheries and oil, so the majority of beer sold in Newfoundland must be produced there. Removing those barriers could lead to plant closures and job losses in a province that has difficulty attracting investments in industry.

Seriously, I have no life.
Don't try to make sense of the senseless. The fentanyl thing was BS right from the start. Dairy tariffs are only triggered after quotas are exceeded. Regardless, Canada imports 2.6 times (in value) more dairy products from the US than the reverse. It's just another batch of BS. As one excuse for tariffs is exposed as nonsense, another one is thrown into the mix. It's exhausting.
Fentanyl coming in from Canada may be, but it's coming in from Mexico and recently, a large number of migrants from South of the border flew into Canada. OTOH, if the airlines and security do their job, it should be caught.

This whole thing is ridiculous, but didn't Trump suspend the tariffs on Mexico and Canada for 30 days?

I guess they could do something but they seem to go along with the idea of "Don't just do something, sit there".

Someone needs to start a movement to repopulate Congress.

If the warrants wouldn't be tied up in court for decades, I think sweeping cities would accumulate a lot of illegal weapons but the manpower needed for that would be more than the US could handle, even if they used every cop or all military personnel- there are just too many guns and people with guns. I would be OK if they allowed people to turn in guns that aren't registered/no CCW with a few conditions-

- First, the person turning in a weapon can't be a felon- that automatically causes a problem. if non-felons/non-violent/non
- Second, if someone turns in a gun, they can't be violent criminals/felons/addicts and they would be allowed- they're free to apply for a permit and if they pass, fine. They can live by the laws, if possible.
- Third, anyone with a stolen weapon needs to answer a lot of questions.
- Fourth, they can't be 'garbage guns', non-working guns of any kind.
- Fifth, they have to be 'clean', meaning 'not involved in known criminal activity'.

I would never assume that all illegal guns would be turned in just because a new law tells people to and a complete ban will never be successful.
