Thoughts on this one? Emotiva sells it for $600 but it is out of stock. The price is good here. I've read on this forum that Emotiva is not the best, but it's easily in my price range. I don't like the guy's low fb profile though.

I could offer the guy $350 and see what happens. Ebay does have a sort of guarantee if it arrives defective.

I just bought it. 3 ch are as rare as finding a bigfoot. There was a competing offer ebay said. I didn't want to lose to whatever that offer was. I think this will more than cut the mustard for me!

Do not buy Emotiva ever! Absolute junk.

For loud rock, 80+. With my La Scalas it was 70.
Do you have a phone app that has RTA and SPL meter? I use the Dynaudio app- 70, with the Klipsch speakers must have been pretty loud, although I'm not familiar with the volume control in Onkyo, just Denon & Marantz. It may be the same and if it is, 70 is similar to -15dB to -12dB on the other scale, IIRC.

I do not.

Too late. What's wrong with them? I like that I don't need two amps. If it works for a couple years, I'd be happy with that. Dollars to doughnuts, it will go for way longer than that. I don't like dealing with a low fb guy. But it might turn out fine.

I've often wondered what would be the consensus or generally what is best if playing music from Youtube, do you flip to stereo mode (that is, if your system is a HT) or just leave it in whatever DSP you have for TV?
If I had surround modes, I would find the one(s) that I like most but since my system is stereo only, I never need to think about it. If AUTO doesn't work, I guess scrolling through the options on the remote is the only choice.

I do not.
The Dynaudio app is free and I find that it works well enough but if I need to do more detailed analysis, I use RoomEQ Wizard.

Yeah, I'm the tech geek when someone says something about the sound of the music at a club or restaurant.

They blow up at an alarming rate. Total junk. Very unlikely you will get two years out of it driving those speakers. Go for quality, which is cheapest by far in the long run.

Will it sound good before it blows up?

The problem was the bait and switch. Unfortunately you have ended up with a speaker with three woofers in parallel. That really ups the ante as far as the robustness and stability of the amps driving them. Any time you get an impedance below 4 ohms, think dollars for amps. I have not found the phase angles for those speakers yet. If I can not find it, I will have to come and measure the curves.

The issue is this. Every time you increase increase volume by 3db you double the power the amp has to deliver to the speakers. It gets worse, as to give that power of 3db the current in the output devices doubles and that means the heating effect in the devices is squared. It is heat that kills and blows up the amps.

So, I have to think about this. You have dug a bit of a hole as powering powerful low impedance speakers has large dollar signs attached.

Try and get out of that Emotiva purchase and turn the volume down until we can come up with a plan that makes sense.

I would really prefer to not spend much more for the time being. I am very much open to getting something better when the time is right for me financially. I have one debt and that is my car. I do not like debt. So why not use that amp for several months? I would imagine I can sell it for the same as what I paid. I do not want to wait for months to get what is probably better. This way I can be at peace knowing I am helping my AVR survive.

Doesn't look like a difficult impedance curve, to me.

That curve is from KEF's literature. The impedance is 4 ohms or less from 100 Hz to 700 Hz, which is the real powerband. I suspect that curve is smoothed as it does not show the 3.2 ohm dip in the specs from KEF. Also I can not find phase angles anywhere. That is really crucial in assessing what amp you need.

I will have to get my measurements. If it is not bad I can loan him a Quad 405-2 which is stable to four ohms. I do have a couple of Quad 303s that are 45 watt per channel and designed in the sixties. They are unconditionally stable under all loads. The only amp I know of that can claim that, and the claim is true. You can even connect the speaker outputs together on those without blowing them up. They are the most bullet proof amps ever designed and by a big margin.

I just sent the seller a message asking to cancel. So you'd be able to loan me 2 amps? I'll see if he responds.
