Any AVR that is set inside of an enclosed shelf, but the front, will retain more heat. The heat sinks inside the AVR, have a purpose. I would think a later model AVR, will stand up very well. Having an AVR in an open environment, is ideal.Don't expect any of the new models to last 15 years. They're just not built the same anymore. The Denon/Marantz room EQ is very good but they run super hot which I guess will shorten their lifespan.
