Denon AVR-A10H 13.4CH AV Receiver Close to Flagship Level?

Point taken, but a breakout type connector could have worked too. I'm still waiting for someone to make a simple 7.1 analog -> Digital HDMI connection box. That would get around the lack of dedicated RCA inputs as all HDMI connections are capable of carrying 7.1 digital in.

The only real thing stopping it is the insane licensing prices HDMI charges. Still, a company like Monoprice that's already licensed for HDMI could probably make one if there was enough expressed interest. That could also get you the bass management and processing features typically missing from 7.1 RCA inputs.

Analogue ports are needed for vintage gaming as well. I still have a PS2 and Wii. Add a cassette deck, turntable and VCR for the grand kids to watch all of those Disney tapes and the analogue ports add up. :)
You make the grand kids watch VHS tapes? What a d#%k!;) Phono aside, the damn thing has six pair of two channel analog ports.

Really old analog devices should be connected to old CRT TVs. They really look like s#%t connected to new digital sets.

The 7.1 EXT IN should be included on flagship models of AVP/AVRs. Some ponying up for them definitely want them. Might as well go all in if the f#%kin’ composite and component ports are still coming along for the ride.

The upscaling to 1080p worked very well on those sources but I have to admit that when you get to 4k it's a stretch trying to upscale from 480. One reason I went to the Denon X4800H was that it has a set of component inputs for my PS2 or Wii and composite for the VHS (I have some anime VHS tapes that are not available to stream or download). One set is all I need. I would have preferred S-VHS but those inputs have disappeared entirely. I'll watch some of those tapes one more time and then sell them. There is a group on reddit dedicated to collecting anime on VHS.

Is this the equivalent of a cinema 30?
The Denon X6800H is more of the equivalent of the Cinema 30. Both have the same Sabre ESS DAC, HDMI board, 140W x 11Ch amp, 13.4Ch processing.

Thanks for that, interesting that down here the Cinema 30 is the same price as the A10h, go figure that... you would assume the A10h "should" measure better whether audible or not so I wonder what the attraction to the 30 is?

In the US, the A10 is $4700 and the Cinema 30 is $4500, almost the same price.

But some people believe Marantz sounds (and looks aesthetically) better than Denon. The heart wants…. :D

I'm looking to upgrade my current receiver for one that supports 13ch. Not sure if I should get the X6800H or the A10H, any suggestions?

The AVR-X6800H+a 3 channel power amp could be a better value because for the same or less total costs you will have more output for the LCR channels where real output voltage/current may be needed depending on your listening habits.

Depends on what kind of deals and external amps you get.

For 13.4Ch I would get the X6800H (plus something like an ATI AT1802 200W x 2Ch amp).

I have an SR8015 for a 9.3.4 system. External hypex amp for LCR since I need 13 channels and SR8105 has 11 amps but processes 13. I just placed an order for the A10H for more sub outs, TT output, access to DLBC, and better GUI. The true successor to my AVR is the Cinema 30. Other than aesthetics am I missing anything going with the A10H instead of the Cinema 30? Pricing is very close and it seems like the A10H has better DACs. I guess it's missing HDAM but not sure that really means anything. Thanks.

I don't think there's a difference in DAC between the Cinema 30 and the A10H. If the price difference between the two was small, I would handily choose the Cinema 30. But then again, I prefer the aesthetics of the Marantz.

On a Youtube comment Audioholics (I think it was Gene) said A10H has "2 more channels of amplification, higher end DACs (ESS9018 vs 9017). Both great products. Marantz has a torodial PS and better aesthetics, IMO"

I don't care about aesthetics as it's in another room in a rack. Not sure if the power supply or HDAM makes any difference. Just want the better performing unit for primarily HT use. I listen to music just occasionally.

Hmm, you're right, they're more different than I thought. In that case, I would definitely take the Denon, especially if it's going to be hidden in a rack!
