That isn't normal at all, it shouldn't be a concern
Agreed! Both my son and I have owned a multitude of modern (and some vintage) KEF speakers over that past 9 years. He still has a 7.1 setup that includes Q500's, a Q200c center, Q800DS surrounds, and Q100 rears. That's been in place 7 years and zero issues.

Seriously, I have no life.
It's an old thread, but I sent the photo to a friend, who's a regional sales manager for KEF- I asked if he thinks it would be covered under the warranty.

IMO that was an obvious case of physically damaging a loudspeaker apart from possibly over driving it with a clipping amplifier. No warranty would ever cover such damage.

Yet you would be quite surprised at how compassionate the people at KEF USA can be. I have a FB Group of about 14,000 "KEF Enthusiasts" and we see this now & then. For a surprising number of users who admit to having had an accidental bump-up in volume that resulted in clipping or over-excursion and blew the driver up like that KEF USA will frequently send a replacement without charge. Those who insist that they 'never turned it up beyond a whisper' and 'it happened all by itself'....get to pay for it.

If KEF are so compassionate, no wonder why their asking prices are a somehow stiff compared to other brand products.

Most people who buy such pricey loudspeakers take good care of them. Personally, I would prefer a company that ask less for their products and is less compassionate for applying warranty rules. By selling its products at a lower price, it can sell more.
