BGA IC replacement part for x3800

I have a Denon x3800 receiver. Recently we faced power issues and the HDMI inputs stopped working after this. I had this checked and the BGA IC's are at fault. Either 2 of them need to be replaced or the HDMI board itself needs to be replaced (As I understand from the service personal, replacing a BGA IC is not an easy task unlike previous gen IC's).

Do you guys know where i can get the following IC (Pls see image)?

I would not try and replace an IC like that. Since it is a Panasonic chip good luck! I would install a new HDMI board. The chances of soldering a surface mount chip like that and having it work are slim. After you replace you might find there are actually other components at fault also which were not apparent because of the blown ship. My strong advice is to replace the HDMI board.
If that was a lightening strike there may be other components that will blow soon. So consider receiver replacement.

If this was lightening you need whole house surge protection. I have just beefed mine up to bring it up to current code. I have the largest SPD 1 you can fit at the entry and a large SPD2 in each of the two panels. We now live in an age where max surge protection is not optional, but essentially mandatory. That applies to us all now. Anyone reading this wherever they are need max surge protection and that is NOT a power strip with surge protectors, that is just feel good useless protection.

I have spoken to two electricians lately who have been in multiple homes with total wipe outs of late, Fridges, washing machines AC furnaces TVs, the lot.

Everyone and I mean everyone needs to get their homes up to current NEC standards as required for new builds. That is SPD1 at entry and SPD2 at all panels. Electrical storms are now vicious everywhere.

Do you know where I can get a replacement HDMI board for this receiver and how much that would cost?

If the chips do not cost much I would not mind attempting to fix it by just replacing them. After all the board is mostly dead.

You can try Mouser electronics, and DigiKey. If they don't have it you are out of luck.

A manufacturer's warranty doesn't cover power surges.

I think you are in India. Is that correct? If so, you need to get parts from Denon or their authorized service center. With receivers after a major repair, there are normally codes to enter and BIOS to re-flash. Repair is not like it used to be. You can fix a board and it still won't work because of software issues. From what you describe you need an authorized service center.

Surge protectors help protect from surges whatever the cause. Since you live in India if you own the kind of equipment you do, surge protection is mandatory not optional. If you had had surge protection in your home, almost certainly you would still have a working receiver.

I have done a careful parts search. The IC you listed is NOT available from any parts supplier. I suspect it was a specialized made to order chip for Denon.

I think you have ONLY two options.

1). Send it for repair to an authorized Denon service center.

2). Junk it and replace it. You may find the cost is similar.

Yes I am in India and I will certainly consider the whole house surge protection.

With the authorized service, i will have to spend nearly 600-800$ to repair it (Mobo replacement). You are saying this IC does not seem to be available. With these kind of options, I might have to reconsider this hobby! Does not make any sense to spend over 1500$ to run into an issue and literally brick the device.

Most folks back here play it safe and get an HTIB/soundbar for fear of running into issues and spending too much. I was lucky that i did not run into any issues the first 10 years (If I recall it correctly, i had run my entire system off a UPS - Receiver+HTPC+TV+Monitor back then. Slight changes now, as I had to move to a different room).

The X3800H should be under warranty. Contact Denon and see.

Warranty back here is a miserly 1 year! Dealer monopoly, leave us with no option.

I searched around and found this on ebay. Not sure if I should give this a shot. That is about 70$ total. Plus the risk of the replacement needing to work, and about 70$ for repair.

The problem is that is not the same number, so I doubt it is the same chip. The other issue is, that you can not solder that chip to the board by hand. You don't stand a chance and you will destroy the chip. That is a surface mount chip, that has to be robotically placed.

So, you need a new board. The only way to service a receiver like that is board replacement, and there is likely more to do that just replacing the board. Service manuals are not made available which is a disgrace.

The cost of service is roughly half the cost of a new unit, but that unit has been stressed enough to blow at least one board, so you can look at a new unit as added insurance. It is up to you.

The unit has obviously taken a serious hit, and I personally would go for a new unit.
