Maine’s top election official removes Trump from 2024 primary ballot

I personally believe it’s going to be a 9-0 vote by SCOTUS to allow Trump on the ballot. This is going to severely hurt Dems but I doubt it will cost the Presidency , maybe a lot of seats in the house and a couple Senate seats. Trumps anti Ukraine pro Russia stance will cost him the Presidency, public opinion is overwhelmingly pro Ukraine. Voters keeping him out of office is the best possible outcome.

It's interesting that Trump's campaign is arguing that keeping Trump off the ballot would be undemocratic and it would deny voters their choice.

Article II of the Constitution also limits who can be president:

>>>Article II, Section 1, Clause 5:

"No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States."

The Qualifications Clause set forth in Article II, Section 1, Clause 5 requires the President to be a natural-born citizen, at least thirty-five years of age, and a resident of the United States for at least fourteen years.<<<(emphasis added)

Trump was not the least bit concerned about the alleged antidemocratic effects of the qualifications clause when it came to Obama

https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/donald-trump-perpetuated-birther-movement-years/story?id=42138176

Trump was pleased as punch to raise the birther issue when it came to Cruz.

>>>Donald Trump said in an interview that rival Ted Cruz’s Canadian birthplace was a “very precarious” issue that could make the Texas senator vulnerable if he became the Republican presidential nominee.

“Republicans are going to have to ask themselves the question: ‘Do we want a candidate who could be tied up in court for two years?’ That’d be a big problem,” Trump said when asked about the topic. “It’d be a very precarious one for Republicans because he’d be running and the courts may take a long time to make decision. You don’t want to be running and have that kind of thing over your head.”<<<(emphasis added)

Of course, this will not bother those who believe Trump is their own personal orange jesus.

Democrats are going to have to ask themselves the question........ 'Do we want a President that that could fall on his face walking up stairs, not know which way to go after leaving the podium, yet all the while still enjoys sniffing little girls hair' ???

The Dems should be more concerned with getting a viable candidate for 2024 instead pissing into the wind with regards to Trump !

'F' Biden & Trump......... my new Campaign slogan !!

So what. He's a schmuck and the majority of voters know how to handle a schmuck. He's said all sorts of off the wall stuff. It really doesn't matter.

Now if there was merit to the Obama birther allegations then I would expect it to be handled the same way. In the courts where appeals go up and end at SCOTUS.

Seriously, I have no life.
It is not up to the people who is or is not qualified. the 14th amendment states all the requirements who can or cannot run. States are in charge of elections, not the government. Hell, let the people decide who they want be it a 32 year old, a naturalize person, or whatever. No need to have qualifications.

Not Trump. I'd say the primary reason they find Trump appealing is because he behaves like a schmuck.

What imaginary universe am I living in? I'd like to think one where when it comes down to it we allow for due process. Who knows you might even need it some day.

And whats the reciprocal of 'majority'? I don't get all the infantile bleating. The guy isn't even president. He was voted out. What do you fukking want? The voting process WORKED for christs sake.

If you're saying the majority of voters know how to handle a schmuck, I would strongly disagree with that when it comes to MAGA. Trump is a schmuck, but they can't handle any criticism against him. I also agree with due process and believe he should be on the ballot. However, that doesn't make me think he's a "swell" guy LOL.

Dear god... They aren't the majority vote. It's the entire point. The process worked and I don't think the process should be circumvented without due process. It's literally that important to our Democracy.

I fucking don't like the guy but this end run that NH and CO are attempting I don't fucking like either. It's its' own can of worms.

If I was in the middle of 91 Indictments, I sure would not be considered electable for local Dog Catcher, yet alone US President.

Keeping Trump off of ALL ballots is what would happen to anyone but Trump.
He can run again after he has been cleared of all charges.
This is what would happen to any normal citizen, even though the law doesn't specifically state they should be off ballots for that reason.
The voters can do their duty after that.

He proved himself to be a shmuck over and over and was still elected president in 2016. And, as demonstrated then, it doesn't require a majority of voters to bring him back. And, if anything, they are more determined than ever.

No but they are the most vocal and the ones dictating the GOP.

And lesson learned and he wasn't voted back in.

You seem to think since stuff didn't turn out the way you liked that more extreme, non-voting, measures are ok.

Lets all just take a pipe to a knee then. Worked for Tonya Harding...

And when he is found guilty of a charge that also precludes him from eligibility you'll have your answer. To some this is going to look like political persecution and anyone that your opponent wants rid of that badly by any means is often THE ONE to vote for some. It's the martyr complex. And yes it's all politically motivated because if he wasn't running for president the other business suites wouldn't be brought at all like they have been. That is what it is regardless of my personal feelings towards him. I was born at night, just not last night.

I think he needs to be accountable for the vast pressure to 'find votes'. If he's found guilty of anything I hope it's that.

You seem to think you know what I'm thinking. Interesting.

I don't recall suggesting any measures, never mind "extreme, non-voting" ones.

Regardless, it's all conjecture at this point:
If states block Trump from the GOP primary ballot, can he still run for president? - CBS News
But both decisions are on hold while the legal process plays out, and there is increasing pressure on the U.S. Supreme Court to say clearly: Can Trump still run for president after the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol?
Here's some food for thought though. Suppose these states (and any others who make similar rulings) leave these decisions on hold pending a ruling from SCOTUS, Trump is permitted to run, and wins. Then, at some point following the election SCOTUS rules that he was ineligible to run. What are the chances of prying his ass out of the White House? Even if it happens, do you really want President MTG? :D

We'll I'm certainly more in favor of your scenario then saying truck it to the current process. We will as a nation have to take our lumps if we collectively vote him back in. That's the lesson to learn.
