Seriously, I have no life.
Love those over-packed AVRs:) Who wants to do resets all night?
The fact is, it has become ubiquitous and accepted. But you are right, it is actually atrocious design and engineering.

Easy enough to be worth a try. Will you replace or seek repair?
Not sure what a repair will look like, but if I go that route I'd try doing it myself. Otherwise I'll end up replacing once I find a deal on a new AVR.

Unless you are experienced and have a lot of test equipment you won't get far doing it yourself.

Unless you're experienced and have the right tools doubtful you can do much on your own outside of the resets. Contacting Yamaha might not be a bad way to go just in case they're willing to help....or advise on availability of replacement boards.
