I’ll try to be quick with this. I still have a Yamaha rx Z1 that I never upgraded from because it sounds just so good to me that I just stuck with it. I just recently got into SACD and have a bunch of multi channel discs. Since the Yamaha has no HDMI I decided to go the 5.1 analog out route and found a used oppo BDP-93 blu ray player that had what I need. So anyway, I hook everything up and select 6 channel input on the Yamaha and there is absolutely no sound whatsoever coming from the center channel. I went into the oppo menu and saw center was turned off so I turned it on but still no sound, tried different cables you name it. It’s when 6
Channel input is selected that this happens, center works fine on all the other settings, anybody have any idea of what to try here. Im assuming I’m just overlooking something here I just don’t know what. I appreciate everyone’s time and thanks in advance.

Did you try several SACDs? It occurred to me several times and I don't remember which discs, but it happens that some don't have a center channel output.

I’ve a number SACD where the center channel is not used or at very low volume relative to other channels.

Have you enabled SACD multi-channel layer in the Oppo player? You can select that as default for SACD.

In the menu settings there is a priority level for the type of SACD. If you don't select multichannel as default, sound will play back but you will be missing all the channels except the main L&R. If it is set to stereo or CD track, then you will get stereo only.

Thanks for the replies. I do have the oppo set to multi channel and I did try 3 different SACD’S(Dire straits brothers in arms, Elton john captain fantastic, and the best of Celine dion and all 3 times I got audio from everywhere but the center channel. There has to be something I’m doing wrong here. I’m going to keep trying

I suspect a fault.

Connect one of the working channels from the Oppo to the center channel input and see if you get sound. If you don't that analog input is probably dead. If you do get sound, then connect the center channel of the Oppo player into one of the Yamaha channels you know works. If there is no sound then the center channel of the Oppo is not working.

Many of my multich sacds are based on 4.0 mixes, so center often doesn't have anything. However, my Dire Straits sacd does have center channel content, just put it on to be sure...so I'd follow the switching TLS describes to find out more....

I’m almost embarrassed to come back here but after painstakingly going through all the settings I found out I did not have the 6 channel input on the Yamaha set up properly and it was sending the center info to the main speakers, I changed this and I’m now getting sound from the center as I should be. I had a feeling it was something I was overlooking thank you all for your help and input i greatly appreciate and I apologize for wasting everybody’s time

Well, that was an easy fix. Always double check your connections when the sound output is not what it should be.
