I'm hung up on the fact that the two receivers I'm looking at only have one 4k @120hz hdmi port. The Denon x2700 and marantz SR5015.

Do you really need more then one? I have a Playstation and nes switch, roku and 4k player.

The Playstation, if a PS5, is the only device mentioned requiring the capabilities of the 8K/4K@120Hz HDMI port.

Step up to the current gen X2800H and get 3 4K120 ports. If you add an Xbox later, you will be glad you did.

If you plan to use more than one device capable of 4k120hz. Then yes you need multiple.

Or just use hdmi earc to send audio to the receiver from the tv.

Is the display capable of high quality playback?

The LG C1 supports 4K @120Hz. It also supports 1440p, AMD FreeSync and Nvidia G-SYNC. Some may prefer to connect directly to it for gaming as no Denon currently supports those features. But, DTS will be converted to PCM over eARC as it is not supported by the LG C1.

I bought the Denon AVR-S960H over the AVR-S970H after speaking with Denon. The only difference is that the 970 has 2 more 8K inputs and has a new HD on-screen menu. I could care less how fancy the on-screen menu is as long as it's informative. The extra inputs can easily be added for a cheaper cost and more of them.

I've looked into 8K switch boxes. Denon makes one as well that integrates into the input menu and remote of the receiver. It only has 3 inputs and connects to the one 8K input of the receiver. However when using it's integrated mode, it's extra 2 8k inputs takes the place of the receiver's 2 other 4K inputs. So you gain no additional, TOTAL HDMI inputs. It regular mode, you use the switch boxes own remote and it doesn't integrate and use the receiver's 4K inputs. This way you have a total of 8 HDMI inputs now with 3 being 8K. The Denon AVS-3 is $150 at some retailers and has a $200 MSRP.

Myself, I want more inputs so I'd wait for an after market switch that offers 4 or 5, 8K inputs.

Honestly by the time 8K becomes popular, you'll likely have another HDCP version along with new HDR formats that will require a new receiver anyhow. So buy for today.

If all you're wanting is to play games on the one 8K HDMI input with different devices, buy a cheaper 4K 120Hz switch box. They are all over Amazon for around $40.

Good luck

Might want to check your manufacture date on the 960h....that was one of the models with with the infamous HDMI 2.1 bug. Denon sent out adaptor boxes to those that had it. Unless....

"According to Forbes, all Denon and Marantz flagship receivers manufactured after May 2021 are officially glitch-free. This is because the latest units are fitted with a new HDMI 2.1 chip that don’t suffer the same flaws."

I had a Yamaha briefly with the bug....it was useless, and I didnt even use anything that required 2.1.

Those models were only a few, and any selling now from authorized sellers should have the same HDMI chips as the 970H.

Anything with a serial number above 70000 has the new fix. Even the models with the issue, can easily be fixed by notifying Denon and having the adapter sent to you, that fixes the issue.

If you buy from an authorized seller, you should only get stock that has the fix. Same with any 2020 Denon model receiver.

2020 Models from Yamaha also had the issue, and need to be sent in for repair. They are also really only 8K 30Hz (60Hz B compressed) compatible, not 8K 60Hz AB uncompressed compatible like Denon.

I bought my Denon S-960H in June 2021. I had to apply for their free SPK618 HDMI 2.1 Adapter Box, via Denon Website. I received inside of 3 weeks after applying. Even though my TV is not HDMI 2.1 and I don't do any gaming, I figured I might as well have. lol
