Yamaha RX-V4A Receiver - On Screen Volume display does not show up on TV when adjusting volume

Just figured out this problem.
Go to set up in menu,select Video/HDMI,Video Mode, make sure Direct is selected. If Processing is selected short messages will not display on tv.
