I purchased an Audiosource Amp 100 recently but when hooked up, I am getting no more volume than from my av receiver. I have it hooked up properly. Why is the volume coming from the amp not louder than the volume coming from my av receiver? Do I need to purchase an amp with more wattage? My receiver is a Denon AVR 3500h at 105 watts pc so I expected to hear an extra 50 watts from the amp. What am I missing?

Describe hooked up properly (hopefully you're using the pre-outs). You're not adding 50 wpc, the external amp you're using is only 50wpc, so only half of what your avr has in the way of power. Takes a doubling of power to gain merely 3dB spl....move your volume control on your avr 3dB to see how big a difference that is. I'd usually say if you're going to get an external amp, get a fairly capable one, I usually aim at the 250-300 wpc area and one that's more capable with lower impedance loads....but it's not particularly about a huge change in volume....

ps Make sure your speakers are up to the job, too....what are they?

My surrounds are more generic but lcr are KLIPSCH. I wanted extra power to add more volume from my height speakers without having to dumb down my lcr speakers. In my naive way of thinking, 105 watts from AVR along with 50 from the amp would give me 155 watts. Boy was I wrong.

You're not the first to think that if that's any comfort.

Just raise the trim levels of the height speakers would be my suggestion....
