Looking to see what the interest (if any) in buying my 3600h is. Going to upgrade to the 8500ha because I want front wides and the option to go pre out mode on any or all the channels instead of just the front L&R. The 3600h is in pristine condition but was bought from a Denon refurb place but has a 6 year (5 years left) bumper to bumper transferable warranty. Have all accessories that came with it. Paid $1,100 back in September 2021, so make me an offer!

Just curious, what particular features are you finding an advantage in the 8500 to be? Especially in your particular use now (and maybe down the line if there is such).

I want to add front wides to help out the panning between where my towers and surrounds are. I’m limited with the distance apart I can get my towers with the way my living room is laid out. Although front heights did help a lot being out wider than the towers. Also like the idea of being able to use any or all channel in pre out mode. The 3600 can only do this on ether the L&R or rear surrounds (I think). I have a 3 channel external amp for the LCR but the center pre out is still connected to the internal amp section on the 3600. At least that’s how I understand it. Either way, I’m maxed out with all 11 channels. The 8500 can process 15 channels and power 13. So front wides and maybe rear heights.

You haven't read your owner's manual. Your AVR-X3600 has pre-outs for all 7 channels.

He's talking about the flexibility of the pre-amp only amp assignment mode....
That's exactly what I'm talking about. And the fact that I want to add front wides and rear heights for a total of 15 channels with my external amp. Can't do that with the 3600.

That whole pre-amp mode thing has been a bit overblown.....what is the sensitivity of your amps?

I know what you're getting at but that's just part of the reason I want to upgrade. The bigger reason is the 15 total processed channels where as right now I'm capped at 11. Also if I ever want to get all external amps (not sure I'd ever need to) the 8500 can basically turn into a pre pro at that price point. I did look into the 6700 as well but it can't do all the pre amp stuff the 8500 can and it's maxed at 13 channels. At least as I understand it. I don't have anything 8K and I'm not sure that's even worth it for me yet as there seems to be very little content out there. And you can get the 8500 turned into the 8500HA down the road if that becomes a thing I can't live without. To answer your question the 3 channel amp I have for the LCR has a sensitivity of 1.25V (8 Ohm) and 140W RMS per channel all channels driven so I get that at the volume I normally use I probably wouldn't start clipping the signal but I do push to reference level or close to it from time to time. Is there a reason I shouldn't upgrade? This is just a hobby for me, I'm no expert in any way. Anything I can learn here is welcome. At the end of the day, I'm just trying to sell an AVR 3600H.

If you really want 15ch then the 8500 is a way to go (or the A1H)....the others won't cut it on that basis alone. The normal pre-out spec is fine for an amp of 1.25V sensitivity there's no advantage to the dedicated pre-amp mode at that point....at least in terms of trying to gain that slightly extra clean output that's been measured at slightly higher output voltages using the dedicated pre-amp mode....

I figure if I'm going to the trouble of 13 speakers plus 3 subs, why not 15. Can't hurt.

And before someone reply's that the 8500 only has two sub outs, I'm using only one out and a mini DSP HD and disabling the correction in the app to it.

The A1H can do four subs....just sayin' :) Love spending other people's money :)

Ha! I knew someone would chime in! Mmmmmm, A1H for $6K plus or my $240 mini DSP HD? Decisions decisions.
