Low Volume in Pioneer SX

Hi!
I recently bought a Pioneer SX-727 thrift store find. It played great until I turned up the volume to hear it loud. I think I blew something! It played loud for about a minute, popped, then got staticky and sound would pop in and out. Now it plays great at low volume. If I turn it up it pops and sound goes out. Pops again sound comes on for a fraction of a second then out again. I turn it down and it plays fine. Not sure if "pop" is the right term. It's like when you're looking for reception on FM and it goes in and out? Sorry if that's more confusing!

Tried all channels (phono, Aux, FM, AM), Switched speakers from A to B, Checked speakers, connections and even replaced cable. Does the same no matter what I try.

I know there are some audiophile gurus out there!

Thank you

Did you hook up more then one pair of speakers and play at the same time? Either way, more information is needed

Just one set of bookshelf speakers, Everett. What other information should supply?

Thanks again, Everette. I switched speakers and it seems to have fixed the problem!

Can't expect much from an old receiver like that IMO....and its not got a particularly powerful amp section so perhaps more sensitive speakers might get louder....the particular speakers involved would be nice to know.....
