Hi Friends just curious. (Admin-feel free to delete if too far off topic)
just trying to engage. I enjoy watching YT video reviews whenever I’m in the learning stages a new focus. It is really awesome to find what others do with their systems, I seem to learn a lot however so many reviews seem to be paired with coffee drinking. Just curious what are your favorite methods of making your coffee? Keurig? Instant? Espresso? Just go to the coffee shop? My favorite is the AeroPress. Just curious is home theater and coffee drinking as common together as it appears on YouTube.

I've gone Keurig for the last 6 years exclusively, before that it was French press and expreso machine. Not comparable in terms of taste, but the Kuerig is not bad at bringing me my Dunkin fix, and hot teas, which is a whole other topic lol.

This thread is really not specifically titled for coffee lovers. I would suggest you abandon it and start a new one with the right specific title. It should be placed under the Steam Vent Forum section.

As an alternative, here is another thread which might be continued for your interest. Some members have mentioned how they make their coffee, and some even explain how they roast coffee at home:

I’ve done Keurig for years but been on mission to better shape. It was good and consistent but getting close to 60 trying to just eat clean and the aluminum and plastic was part of my elimination diet. And I now love the aeropress coffee and it’s much easier then I thought. I still have a Keurig but really haven’t used it

This sort of post goes into the Steam Vent subforum. There's a couple there already.

FWIW I'm a long time Aeropress user with a Baratza Virtuoso grinder. Just recently got a Flair Espresso machine and a 1ZPresso (K Plus) grinder to up my espresso/affogato game. I'd never use a maker with pods and instant is just disgusting :)

Oh you can throw a lot of money at espresso machines for sure. One of my clients for many years was a major importer of the machines for restaurants/cafes (wasn't into it back then, kinda wish I'd used my ability to buy one a bit above cost as was offered). One of my buddies has one of those really nice machines you just pick the type of coffee drink, it grinds the beans appropriately, adds milk in appropriate form as necessary and even discards the coffee puck for ya. Maintenance of those machines was the bigger business for my customer and my buddy has had a few issues of his own. Kinda why I went with the Flair, very simple machine plus wanted something useable without electricity (camping and power outages)....bit of a learning curve but pulls a good cuppa.

I was undecided between a pouring and aero. Went with aero as grinder seems less of a must and no need to go down a kettle rabbit hole lol. I turn my tea pot on to boil water, set the timer on the microwave for a minute 30 seconds boom I got my daily driver

Nanopresso is better than the Aeropress, I think. I roast my own a lot. Not a Keurig fan in the least. I'd rather use a standard Mr Coffee drip than that. My GF had the Keurig. She keeps a dripper for me because I was only catching the first half cup that came out of the keurig and tossing the weaker half. I was then taking coffee and wrapping it up in a filter like a tea bag and soaking it in hopes of adding some gusto/color to the brew. I have been making my own coffee for so long it isn't even a chore.

I'm backing off coffee as of late. I don't really need/feel the caffeine anymore. I do better with drinking fresh squeezed veg juice in the AM. The energy from that seems to stay with me all day and it seems more real, instead of caffeine robbing energy from my future.

can't help but point to my own thread on this, where much solid info has already been posted over the years:

Seriously, I have no life.
I decided to change from diet soda after learning more about what's in it, how bad it is and the negative health effects. I never liked coffee, but could drink it if it had Bailey's or something else that was able to make it palatable, for me. I went to see some friends in AZ and when we were in Prescott, I tried the house brew at a bar (I don't drink, didn't want just water and didn't want some kind of fruit juice)- I really liked it and when I asked what kind it was, they said it was from Sumatra. I buy it at Kroger or Aldi- sometimes ground, sometimes whole and I use a Krups grinder. Two mugs in the morning and I'm good for the day. I have found that if I drink coffee later in the day, it doesn't cause sleepless nights and sometimes, I'll fall asleep soon after drinking it.

Just read through that thread. Good read. I am in South Jersey and we have a good local roaster here with huge selection. (Talkin coffee) and a new coffee /brewery just opened and they have about a dozen. Also roasted on site. (Death of a Fox)

I use the Aeropress for an easy daily driver coffee. If I’m feeling espresso I hit one of the many good local shops. I’m was looking for a no hassle way to ditch the Keurig and exposure to aluminum and plastic. And of course up the flavor. Which it definitely does for me. The NanoPresso looks interesting. I just don’t want to go down the rabbit hole of grinding. Just too expensive for daily coffee.

I'm from central jersey, We have a Rook chain here, which isn't bad, but buying freshly roasted coffee is too rich from my blood. I buy green coffee and roast it myself. The typical price per lb is around $6-7, even counting for roasting weight loss of about 16% (medium roast or city to full city) it's still around $8/lbs plus electricity usage, but it's tiny (about as much as a electrical toaster oven for 20 minutes, once every two weeks)

What do you grind with now? Or buy ground coffee?

I rarely buy a coffee in a shop (and only one halfway decent one locally, long drive otherwise) so the cost of a grinder I think pays for itself fairly quickly....and I'd much rather freshly grind my coffee.

Let's use the bitter drink thread instead of a new one. There's years of good info there and this is totally relevant to that thread :)

Maybe a mod can combine them? Or just move it? Not that we don't have duplicate threads on other subjects otoh....

The carafe thread should have been combined too lol, since that was discussed in both threads.

I got a $55 cast iron hand/wood grinder. Crude, but rather foolproof. Either that, or it is just showing how we tend to overthink it. I rather enjoy the ritual. I roast it outdoors in a popcorn popper. Heard my neighbors across the fence noticing it and saying, "yum, someone is roasting coffee." Fills the whole back yard.

A friend set me up with the popper and some green coffee to try for a bit. I ran out of my regular during the early days of covid and didn't want to go to the store so, I lived on that fresh coffee for a couple weeks. Not a bad way to live.
