FireTV or Fire Stick?

Right now I have a small flat box type thing, a FireTV, that requires being plugged into an electric outlet to power on and a hard wireable ethernet port. I lost the remote for it a couple of weeks ago and it is not turning up. My Xbox 1X has been filling in quite well, but I'm getting tired of the ir controller and having to power up the Xbox all day to watch videos. Plus my wife is learning disabled when it comes to using new remotes...

I can't seem to find a FireTV streaming box similar to mine. All I'm finding in that price range are wireless Fire Sticks. Do they work the same? I'm assuming I'd just plug it right into one of my receiver's HDMI inputs? It's been a long time since I've looked for any streamers like the Fire Stick. My TV has Roku, which I've never used, and would have to use ARC with...

Yeah, the one I have now is not a cube either. It's kind of in between the 2. Much smaller than the cube but bigger than the stick. I'll probably get the stick, but was just wondering if I would see any downsides.

Really, I'd just like to find my frigging remote!

I've only used the sticks, but seems for the most part they offer the same relative functionality.....but will look at Treb's post to see if I'm missing something. Then again I don't need 4k so don't even have 4k fire sticks.

Did you call customer support. I'm sure they will hook you up!
I didn't call them. I hate jumping through the automated call hoops to get to what you need. Where did you find that code? Might be expired?

I just ordered it. Kinda cool that waiting a day got me 10 bucks off. I've had that Fire TV thing for years now, like almost ten? What I like about it most is that it's hard wired. When I set everything up I tried to have a wired ethernet connection for everything. Mainly gaming, but I wired everything. It's not as important to me as it was when I was gaming a lot, and I was gaming a lot. Wired connection is always better. A wireless Fire Stick is new for me. If it works the same as my little box I'll be happy.

You must have had the first gen Fire TV.
You can get an ethernet adapter for the stick if your wifi doesn't work out.
Yes! That is exactly what mine looks like. Seeing that remote in the image just pisses me off too, damnit! I can't believe our remote just up and vanished like that.

On the plus side I'll be eliminating some cords, be more up to date and have a controller that doesn't have the symbols worn off almost all the buttons. I have very good internet, better than average. So I don't anticipate any problems going wireless. Thanks for the info.

I usually do their customer service chat on the Zon app.

FWIW I've had pretty good luck with using the option of having Amazon call me, altho sometimes you still get transferred around a bit depending what the issue is. The chat has worked okay, too.

And where is that?? I ordered it last week and it was s'posed to be here a couple of days ago. I did get a notification that they ran into an issue but that was days ago and it still hasn't shipped! I can order one right now and get it tomorrow, but they won't let me cancel the one that hasn't shipped yet!

I've been looking all over and don't see a chat option anywhere... This is getting aggravating.

I was in the same boat because I had the 1st gen box and the remote started to fail. There is no replacement. I have the 4K Max stick now and it actually works better than the 1st gen box did. FYI, it still gets plugged into an outlet separately. I saw a lot of reports not to use the USB power from the TV to power it, stick with the plug. HDMI port cannot power it.

Amazon's Customer Service live chat history can be found in the mobile app's live chat. Once you open the application, navigate to “Customer Service” and navigate to “I need more help”, this should lead you to a live chat between you and Amazon's customer support. To see the history, just scroll up.

Ah, I don't use the mobile app. Maybe I should...

It was straightened out and I got my shtick a little bit ago. Works just as good as the old one. Newer gui but similar enough to the old that it's pretty easy to navigate. It auto downloaded all my apps and preferences when I linked my account too, which was nice.
