Only hearing front channels and subwoofer on a 5.1 receiver.

The new receiver that I got worked fine, plug and play. All channels on all the sources I've tried. So it was a broken device after all, and I'm glad I didn't quit.
Does plug and play mean you didn't do a particular setup? Just curious as that wouldn't necessarily be a solution for some modes....

That's right. I only looked at the settings but it worked out of the box. I do plan to do the automatic microphone based volume calibration, but I haven't gotten around to it.

Check out the manual's setup section, both automatic and manual, usually a pretty good guide. You probably just need to learn a bit about it and what settings accommodate what....but ask about anything that doesn't make sense....
