I will say tho, that more and more of the videos I watch use metric units along with standard units, and quite a few only use metric. That's all science type videos, but those types are pushing metric units and I think the rest of the world will drag us over, kicking and screaming, but get us there nonetheless. It's just taking longer than it should.

Science in the USA has used metric measurements for as long as I can remember. In the long run it doesn't matter if you use centimeters vs. inches, kilometers vs. miles. liters vs. quarts. It's simply much easier to do mental arithmetic with decimal numbers than it is with the crazy fractions of the Imperial system.

Who wants to remember that 12 inches = 1 foot and 5,280 feet = 1 mile. Quick, how many pints are in a gallon? How many ounces are in a pound?

Have you ever tried to add two weights together in Imperial units? Quick, add 4 lbs, 9 oz and 7 lbs, 11 oz. Now subtract them.

What's half of 3 lbs, 7 oz? What's half of 17⅝"?

To be fair...

We are taught the metric system and know it, well my generation and forward at least, but since it isn't being used "officially" people forget how easy it actually is.

Thanks for the Wikipedia note on this subject. There's a lot more to it than I remembered.

Still, the arguments for year-round DST don't make sense. If we have DST in the mid winter, it will be dark until well after 8 am during December and January in the latitude where I live (39° North). No one will like that.

I lived for two years in Anchorage, Alaska (61° North). I forget when the sun rose in mid winter, but there was a total of 4½ to 5 hours of daylight each day. Standard time or Daylight time didn't make much difference.

If the US settles on one or the other, I hope it's DST. I think it would be like dominos and other countries would quickly follow, including Canada. I'd sacrifice some light in the morning to have light later in the day. I live at 45° North.

EU did in 2018 have an "online public consultation" regarding summertime, but the results is skewed by so few responding in most (all?) countries.

Personally, considering my life style and where I live I prefer permanent summertime (aka DST).
