The specs that I originally quoted were for the old PB 1000, not the new Pro models, as I assumed it was an older model. Modern subs work equally well for music and movies. The idea that one is suited better for music vs movies is an old misnomer. You can take your listening tastes into account though. If you like orchestral or pipe organ music or modern electronic music, it can have very deep bass content. Some pipe organs can reach 16 Hz and there are plenty of electronic music samples in the "Subwoofer Candy" thread in the forums which have deep bass content. You need to look at the sub specs to reach those frequencies. Classic rock on the other hand does not tend to go that deep.
For music blending look for a relatively flat frequency response curve. If you're watching movies too, I assume that you have an AVR with bass management, so the AVR will handle the crossover point. If aesthetics are a factor, Monolith and Starke have more industrial looking subs. SVS and Rhythmic are in the middle of the pack until you get into their upper models like the SVS 4000. RSL has a reputation for making a good 10" sub in a relatively small package. Hsu makes great subs and some are available in beautiful wood finishes. Another contender is Arendal from Norway. Nice looking subs that measure well and they still offer to cover the taxes, duty and shipping to the U.S. Lots of good options out there.
