I have a Yamaha rx-vs990 that I connected a HT 50 suround system. I am getting 5.1 sound but it is not very controllable. Is there a an adapter for better hookup.... This old man needs your help.

Depends what you mean by controllable. The HT50 is Klipsch's HT50 or ? That avr is old but still has basic adjustments available....

I'll need to check the way I connected the terminal I used. The amp is 100 wts per the speakers r 50 yet I have to turn the amp over 50% and I have little control over front,center and rear. Thank you for your response.

Verify what speaker set you have, and confirming how you've connected everything (as well as what your source is) might help. The amp being rated for 100wpc and your speakers having some sort of rating of 50w (max continuous or peak, guessing continuous) don't work together particularly.....the rating of the speaker is more about limits of the speaker, not much use beyond that. Your receiver has level controls for some speakers/channels as well as delays to adjust the sound to your specific main seat....

ps also your volume dial is likely in dB (didn't look at that part of the manual but Yamaha generally does that), a logarithmic scale so 50% is only achieved 3dB below it's max output (takes a doubling of power to gain 3dB spl) you're probably not turning it up that high but hard to know. Your listening levels could be useful.

AJ (if I may?) The Yamaha is hooked up via a 5.1 Realtek sound card and is connected the LD tv connection. The main speakers seem to be controlled by the PC and the center and rear by the amp the Realtek control manages test will let me set the sound to an equal volume. For some reason the center speaker is more dominant and the rears aren't. Am I being to picky ?

AJ? So it's an analog or digital connection to the (LD? or is that LG brand?) tv? Why is it connected to the tv rather than the avr? What is the model of tv and what specific types of connection cables are you using? If you're talking about what's dominant in typical movie/tv 5.1, the center gets most of the work, surrounds are just for ambience/effect so sounds somewhat normal.

PS When running anything but Reteck check system. Rear speaker sound comes from the front

What is a Reteck check system? Sounds like something is setup wrong if surrounds (if you have 5.1 there is no rear surround) come out the mains.

LD tv? What is that? What specific cable connects tv and receiver and what inputs into receiver?

Your descriptions are....challenging. Does appear you are using analog output from a sound card to the analog inputs on your avr.

Dude, don't know what you're trying to copy/paste, but it really doesn't answer my questions. I wish you luck in figuring it out unless you can communicate a bit more clearly about the gear and specific connections/setup.

Well I have Solved the problem. All speakers are working. Thank you for your time

Well, that was entertaining for sure. I see the issue. The Yamaha has no digitial inputs and only a Discrete 5.0 analog input for multichannel audio. In the pic posted above, the front channels were in the wrong inputs for 5.0 and should have been in the LD/TV MAIN inputs in the 5CH DISCRT INPUT section. The Fronts were connected to the FRONT IN internal amp ports. If not using an external amp connected to the FRONT OUT ports, there should be no wires connected to the FRONT IN and the jumper bars need to be reinserted to connect the FRONT IN and FRONT OUT to use the internal amps.

As for the MAIN DISCRT INPUT, it is 5.0 NOT 5.1. This means the FRONT channels will need to be set at LARGE from the Realtek with NO subwoofer assignment. So, 5.0 out to 5.0 in. Now, setup properly, you will have no sound processing in the Yamaha. It will simply act as a five channel amplifier with volume adjustment. All processing will take place at the other end.
