Denon 4520ci low volume issue

I have owned my Denon 4520ci since new. I really miss the ability of my old class A amp to sound very full at lower volumes. This amp sounds very good when cranked, but weak when at conversational levels. I have talked to Denon many times and tried many configurations. I miss my "loudness" switch... Should I consider using the Denon as a pre and going with a separate amp like an Emotiva to drive the 5 channel surround setup I have? My speakers are KEF reference 104/2 with close to matching canter and surrounds.

That was very helpful. Thank you for the link. Unfortunately I now have a bigger problem. All networking functions are dead, Wi-Fi and rear connectors. The front usb connector died at the same time.

My bad. I meant the LAN ports on the rear of the unit. I have tried the three types of resets the Denon support guys suggested.

So you're trying to use the built in hub for other devices or just trying to connect the 4520 to your network? Three types? Only familiar with two....can you spell out each?

They described one as a general reset (unplugging), one as a network reset and another as a CPU reset. I am trying to use the onboard streaming capabilities.

Soft reset and hard (microprocessor) reset were the ones I was thinking of, wasn't thinking of the network reset. Sometimes other issues come along in older units, tho.

Did you get the Spotify connect update installed? That was the only streaming service I used generally, some others IIRC stopped functioning and were never updated, too. These days I use external streamer via a Chromecast Audio unit, as in its current location it's a pain to string an ethernet cable or attach a repeater type router pretty much just for the one service I want it has onboard, and still allows me to stream my own content as easily as via the avr directly. Which streaming services on the avr do you use?

I just hooked up an external streamer through the CD optical input and it works fine. Way more capability anyway. It is interesting that the usb port is dead as well. No more firmware updates, not that there would be anymore anyway. Thank you again for the help!

So you can't switch the usb port using the options button? It's definitely dead? Maybe when something was plugged in the cord got tripped on or something? I killed the front hdmi port on mine that way....

No, the Denon support guys tried to walk me through a usb firmware flash update as well to see if that would help, but that did not work. We could not get the unit to recognize the flash.

Have you tried seeing if the port is otherwise useable with music on the drive? I seem to recall some difficulties doing the flash drive update, tho.

Not yet. Another thing I noticed after the reset, I can't seem to get to any of the Audyssey settings. They are all greyed out except the top EQ on/off setting.
I re-ran the Audyssey setup, which seemed to work but everything is still greyed out.

Audyssey settings are wiped during a full reset. Need to start over unless you had the network copy of settings to your pc enabled....which sounds like that wasn't possible, but did you ever do the setup for that?
