Old Velodyne VRP 10. Add another?

Well, just ordered the PB1000 from SVS, pretty pumped.
Maybe in the future I'll add another one, but I'm assuming the one will work fine for now. My basement room is 14x35 with short cielings (7'4"). You think just the one PB1000 will do the trick?

Wow. Didn’t know the room was that big, roughly 3500cuft. Depending on how you use it, it might be very satisfying. It is a good little sub for sure. I’m just worried that it’s too small for the space. Did you get the new PRO? It’s a huge upgrade from the older pb1000.
Duals of whatever sub should be on the menu.

I didn't get the pro, figured if the room is big enough to need doubles it was the cheaper route.

I'm not really going for the melt your face experience, I've got 5 kids and the wife doesn't really care for crazy loudness sooo...I figure this should work for now, can always add another if needed.

I would say duals for sure. But try it out. The good news is that svs has a great trial program. So you can find the exact sub/s that work best. Any way you slice it, you’ve definitely upgraded.

I think what you're going to find is that you have a lot of room for the subs you're looking at. I would without hesitation go with duals in a big room like that. The PB1000 is a pretty durned good sub and 2 of them might get you some decent bass in that room, but bigger would be even better. A budget is what a budget is tho, and I certainly can understand that constraint.

Yes, this whole thing started with me wanting to go 2nd hand everything and spend as little money as possible, but things change...Still rocking an old 50" Hitachi plasma, going to upgrade the TV this week.

I would love to add another, but probably not until closer to maybe Father's Day! That being said, William hit the nail on the head, it is going to be a lot better than what I am currently working with.

What are your thoughts about using my old Velodyne as the 2nd sub for the time being? Is that a no-no to mismatch subs?

You can try to use the older sub also, but in general you are limited by the lesser sub. If they're of similar overall response/design then they may play well enough together (but doubt that is particularly the case between these two). I'd give it a try first of course, possibly using the lesser sub as nearfield so it doesn't have to work as hard. As to adding a second identical sub keep in mind the PB1000's days are limited now that there is the newer PB1000Pro model....
