@Sky1 , set them up and see how it goes. Only you can be the judge with your environment and conversation with Jeff at SVS. Let us know how you like it, which will be, "Fantastic." You should be more than Jazzed. lol Good luck

Thanks guys, clearing out some space for them, going to move some things around a bit, wife is being very flexible with me moving things around a bit. I plan to put both subs in the front of the room but have them 90 degrees from the listening position, because of a doorway I can't get one of them to face to the listening position so was going to have both facing each other on opposing sides of the front of the room. I want to have easy access to the ports so I can unplug them for movies. I figure I should be able to adjust phase if needed right?

The only real way of where to put the subs is by using REW and measuring the results. I have just recently dialed in a 3rd sub in my greatroom which is an acoustic nightmare in terms of even bass response. The locations would fool you.

I just set up one so far, didn't even calibrate a thing just cranked up a song and triggered my glass break sensor in my kitchen which set off our alarm system (Outdoor sirens and all) .
So far so good, seems like it cleaned up my midrange. Need to set up the other and plug the ports and run some music with them in sealed mode.
Just started playing with the app, naming them and just getting familiar with it. This weekend I will do full Audyessy tune but got to say, these things can dig deep on some of the movies with LFE but most of the other stuff I watch sound best in a music sealed arrangement and setting so far

Why do you want to seal them? Sorry if I missed it, but simplify your life and keep them ported as they are designed. ;)

The PB3000's in Sealed mode sound better than the SB3000's IMO. I just got them so still figuring it out.

One user's "sound better" can mean different things to another....

I would never buy a ported sub then plug the ports...

Kinda hard to really determine that until you calibrate everything, and pretty much impossible to tell unless you had the SBs set up and calibrated in your room also for comparison.

Yeah, when I was in the demo room it took this newguy over an hour to figure out how to even get the sub to play nevermind tune it to compare. we only matched volume levels. Overall it was an awful experience.
I originally wanted sealed due to size but nearly everyone I talked to said to get the ported ones and that I can plug them when playing music if I so desire.
Figured also easier to trim off some levels than try to boost them. I plan to run a full tune this weekend but just saying just out of the box and setting volume levels by ear sound pretty good.
I am noticing that there seems to be a huge variation of how the bass sound a bit overloaded in some music where as older recordings sound almost anemic. Don't quite remember that being an issue with my smaller subs. Need to see if that goes away after the tune.

But why would you want to just for music? If you get things calibrated a ported sub sounds just as good as a sealed sub, only with superior deep bass performance. This "sealed is better for music" thing is just simply not true. At all. Not with today's ported subs. There is literally, no appreciable gain in sound quality by plugging up (hamstringing) your ported sub. Btw, smaller size is the ONLY advantage with a sealed sub. Everything else is a compromise.

Again, leaving the ports open leaves you more room to trim instead of boost...

Again... you can't make any judgement on sq until you get calibrated and dialed in. If your bass sounds overloaded then you trim.

Guys, I don’t think out OP is saying sealed for music on his own accord. I think it’s just what he was told at the store, and just didn’t know.

But for sure the whole thing needs to go away. Wtf is this? 1995!!!

Just for example, I have 3 big ported subs in my room and there's zero bass bloat.

I'm +/- about 2 dB from 16 hz to 200 hz with 3 big ass ported subs, all wide open. I have a pair of HSU VTF-3 MK5s up front and a RBH SV-1212NR behind me.

I think you're prolly right Bill, and don't mean to come off like I'm beating up on op. If it does I apologize. I just want to dispell this very common myth. A lot of folks who really should know better keep repeating it and it gets frustrating. When I first got here I had the same idea in my head too and found out on my own I should have just started with ported to begin with. It woulda saved me a lot of money, time and energy.

Plus I hate being wrong. The problem with being wrong tho is, until you find out you're wrong it feels exactly like being right...

Oh man, the last sentence in this I soooo good. I’d like to give you a winner medal just for that alone!
As far as opie goes, I could’ve missed him preaching, but it didn’t feel that way. Oh well. I’m interested in seeing how it plays out once he gets to run a full calibration. I have no doubt everything will level out for him, and be game changing.

I do wish we could get past the 90’s with this sealed for music crap. I mean even “affordable” ported subs are pretty damn good these days. And like you, I also have three ported subs, with extension to just around 15hz. I have no screenies without a house curve but my FR is pretty nice, and Ime bass is nice and clean. We’ve also been down a similar rabbit hole. I think you went just a touch deeper though! Having advocates to help steer noobs in the right direction is one of my favorite things about being here. Not that I’m an expert, but have done this for….awhile. Lol
But it is frustrating having to undo bad advice. Especially when you can’t even get to the source! In the past I’ve invited people to ask their “av specialists” or whatever to come have conversations here about their thought processes. But no….nobody ever comes to play.
Least I have you guys!!!

Oh no, there was no preaching or even assertions. Like you said, Opie (that made me chuckle, lol) was prolly just repeating what he'd been told by "the folks who should know better".

That is a very nice setup. How do you find the Air Motion Transformer tweeters? Aren't they smooth and I'm sure they produce an excellent sound stage as well.

Those are RAAL 70/20 ribbon tweeters and they're very smooth with an excellent soundstage.

hey guys, just checking in. My MiniDSP microphone arrived but I haven't run it yet. I did however run the Audyssey but before I did I looked at the EQ settings and yes it was pumped up at a few spots and my distance was a bit off with from my last tune.
After running the tune I played some music to check clarity and was very happy with the results with ports wide open. I heard some low bass notes that I never noticed before. By the way both speakers came into calibration range at -24 db with the SVS app and it set my towers to large. I did not bump the bass levels after calibration like I normally do.
Need to read up on REW and get the laptop to talk to my system.
Can I play a YOUTUBE sweep and measure from that for now?
