Need help! Need perspective

Hello everyone. I'm just getting back into home A/V after being out for 17+ years. I'm all about researching (obsessing) but I know that you guys could answer a few questions and save me hours and hours of reading. I plan to build my own room and DIY as much of it as I can. All I have right now is two towers and a sub. Being my first go at this I am going to go fairly "budget".

1. Infinity Primus P362 Towers- I still have these from 17 years ago. I am not opposed to keeping them even though they are discontinued. They sound good to me but I have no frame of reference. I also am not opposed to getting new ones.
   1. My biggest hurdle right now is that I will go research all of these speakers but I have no idea where these towers stand in contrast to the ones I'm looking at when it comes to sound quality and performance. For example, how do the Primus towers stand up to TriTrix MTM TL Towers (kit)? Or the Wharfedale Diamond 12.3 or ELAC Debut 2.0?
   2. Secondly, how important is timbre matching? If I use the Primus towers but use C-Note Bookshelf Kit or ELAC Debut 2.0 B6.2 will the sound be off? Will the bookshelf speakers out perform the towers? And vise versa.
2. Pok PSW350 - 10" - Someone gave me this sub and I hate it. I think it sounds terrible no matter what I do with it. I'm not using this sub in my HT build. Rather, again, I just want to know how this sub stacks up against subs I am considering. And I understand that SPL, Freq response, etc will be different. I'm talking about sound quality, price to performance ration, etc. I am probably going to go with building my own I've been looking at Dayton 15" reference and Dayton 12" Ultimax. I will choose once I know how big my room is going to be (I'll probably install four of them) How do these perform in comparison to the Polk?

If you like the speakers why are you considering dumping them?

All the subs you mention suck.

Couldn't tell you about the speakers, altho the Tritrix speaker generally gets good remarks for a diy kit speaker. Harman still sells some of the Infinity speakers, occasionally with really good sale prices (think they just had one recently, might even be ongoing now).

The Polk subs generally suck so no surprise there. The Dayton driver diy builds are a good way to go, altho driver choice may lean towards ported vs sealed depending which particular model you use. Can you model your own subs?

I’m not sure what “model” your own sub means.

I’ve been a pc enthusiast my whole life so technical stuff does t scare me. Just point me in the right direction.

I do not know what “model” your own sub means. Do you mean build? Tune?

Model as in using software to design the particular type of sub box suited for the driver's particular T/S (Thiele/Small) parameters, such as winisd or bassbox pro. I think the remaining Infinity line of speakers are successors to Primus, the Reference line....not sure how well they'd match up but believe have read of some doing so. I picked up the RC263 not too long ago to use with some JBLs I have and that's worked out nicely, and the price was extremely good on the sale I used ($150).

Maybe someone with more Infinity experience will chime in.....
