That's the one thing that's making me reluctant to buy it, the unknown reliability of the unit. If it had a 3 year warranty, I'd have no problem paying the money for it. 2 years.......that's a concern IMO.

Regardless, the limited information I've seen about it so far has been overwhelmingly positive so I'm willing to give it the benefit of the doubt (for now).
For that price it's almost worth the risk that is a lot they're offering for only 1149 the special sales option right now
Heck at that price in 2 years if it bricks you could easily move on to something else as TLS Guy has noted us Americans will easily spend way more then that on our subwoofers alone

True enough. I spent more for 1 subwoofer than what this unit would cost me (well, pretty much an equal amount I guess since I got a decent discount from the shop I bought it at).

Then I'd have to buy a couple of amps to power the unit though. And with 13.3 channels, more speakers for the HT room :p

That's the problem isn't it? Not the prepro itself but all the bells and whistles that go with it :D

Yeah. I'm eyeballing 2× Outlaw 7000x amps if I buy this unit. That's ~2000$ + Canadian. Then 4 in-ceiling atmos speakers, another ~2400$ or so Canadian Pesos. 2 more bed layer speakers, which given the size and space available in my HT room have to be in wall speakers. Another ~1200$ ish. Lastly, 1 more Defiance X12 @ ~1700$ to complete the set up.

Suddenly this ~1800$ Canadian pre pro is ~9100$ o_O

Did you end up buying this tonewinner prepro?

Yes. So far, for the most part, I'm happy with it. A few handshake issues, but otherwise no complaints about it (especially for the price).

Check out this thread on AVS Forums for more information:

That's good to know...i just got one of their amps (thoroughly impressed by it's build quality). This seems like a nice small profile prepro that doesn't break the bank. I tried to search that avs thread and did not get hits on what I was looking for...Does this tonewinner come with GEQ (Marantz) or PEQ (like Yamaha)? Does it have the provision to fully defeat any post cal Eq and adjust it manually for each channel? Thanks

Yes it has its own room EQ software. However, I haven't used it myself. My understanding is that it's better to set everything manually. A bunch of owners have used their REW software and UMIK-1 to calibrate it, then set the levels manually (so yes, you can do that). There are ~11 bands of EQ per channel.

@lovinthehd

Yes it has bass management capabilities, and there is a 2 year warranty. As well, I believe a 30 day trial period. Aamir from Summit Hi-Fi is a great guy, with amazing customer service. Give him a call. He'll even talk to you and help you out if you don't purchase from him.

I'm more curious, have no need for such a unit (yet). I did see a comment about its room eq, but many feel that way about room eq in the first place. Is that PEQ or graphic eq? So it's still just the importer/retail sales outfit providing warranty? On the sub bass management how many individual subs can it manage?
