Finally in our new home. (New AVR needed)

Hello everyone, out home has been in the building process for 13 months, finally finished and been in the home about a month or 2 now.

My new AVR needs to be able to drive atleast 9 speakers, 5.2 in living room, 2 in garage and 2 on back porch. Later I may try to add 2 height speakers in living area if possible. I may end up running the mains off of an amp.

I want a ps5, but I can just run another hdmi cable to TV instead of going through the avr if that opens up more options.

Earc would definitely be a nice to have.Amp. probably on most of the options I'm looking at.

One thing I'm really curious about. Baked in options like spotify. Recently I have hooked up my current denon 3300 to my network and cast spotify to it over network. If I have a 2 or 3 zone reciever, how does that work? Can I cast different music to different zones? It has worked extremely well through my denon so far, I really want this feature to be solid in whatever I upgrade to.

I have had yamaha and denon recievers in the past, I'm looking in the ballpark range of marantz 6015 or 7015 maybe yamaha 3080 (I know its older tech, what would I be missing out on?)

You wouldn't be missing out on anything with Yamaha 3080. No older tech there. Are you talking specifically HDMI 2.1? If you need HDMI 2.1, I would wait until Yamaha drops their new AVR's here this Fall. But otherwise the 3080 will easily be one of the top AVR's to look at.

It's a tough time to be buying AVRs. The HDMI issue has left everyone in a bit of a mess. Even the newer Yammies will be requiring a firmware update before they are fully functional... and what that means with the Gen2 HDMI Chipsets is anybodies guess. Many companies seem to be holding out on any HDMI updates until after they see what Yamaha does... if not just waiting until the Gen3 Chipsets come out.

I would almost recommend a Denon 3700 to get you through the next year or two, then upgrade for realsies in 2022 or '23.

If you aren't worried too much about 2.1, then any of the older Yamaha or D&M stuff would be good. You can get a Denon 4500 for $1299 refurb from A4L. (Just an example. )

That only ends up being one more cable to the TV if I'm thinking about it correctly. Will there be lag? What am I missing? What else benefits from running everything through the avr?

I know that was the recommended fix when the problems first started with the 2020 AVRs. Sound United, of course, released their Dongle fix. I don't recall what Yamaha did with their 2020 lineup.
I can't honestly recommend Yamaha's new stuff until it hits the street and they release the firmware update. The 2020 SU AVRs with their Dongle seem to be working.
For the record, as I understand it, SU is NOT releasing any new AVRs this year and is waiting until 2022.

Unless you are really trying to get the fullest functionality of your PS5 right now, I would wait until the dust settles on the 2.1 sh!t, and manufacturers get stuff that actually works to market. (And yes, I consider releasing an AVR to market with a "pending a firmware update" notice to be a not-working AVR.

At this current time I just bought my first 4k set. A 65" samsung q80 and have a Sony x800 with a denon x3300. I don't have a ps5 now.

Clearly, my advice has been to wait as long as possible. The flipside would be perhps a Denon 3700 refurb from A4L:

Still pricey-ish, but it would scratch the itch until things actually shake out for the newer tech. *shrugs
Same if you can find a Yammie variant.
Just research and make certain the 2.1 is working on it, if that is important to you. At least with the Denon, you can still get the Dongle for Free through Sound United.

Everything that I have read about accessories4less leads me to believe they have good stuff. I have called the guy before about speakers and he seems very good to talk to. The marantz recievers from there have 3 year warranties. Think I'm going to listen to ryanosaur and just wait as long as I can.

I've used A4L before and got two lemon refurbs in a row before buying a new unit (same model) from them rather than chance a third refurb....but they stuck to their end of the bargain plus some. No complaints, still bought stuff from them since. Then again you can just keep using your avr you've got until things shake out in the supply lines somewhat, maybe just use a modest external amp in the meantime for one zone or something.....
