Any downsides to putting my entertainment system in garage?

Hey, I didn't imply one way or the other. I said "mancave" because I've never heard of "womancave" or "nonbinarycave". Calling it a mancave doesn't exclude any gender from appreciating it.

It's referred to as a she shed. Now you know. :p

I think it'll work great, but you'll want to insulate the garage door if you can. Something as simple as rock wool would help keep the sound inside and the heat outside.

I'd just do a good indoor/outdoor rug or even an indoor one to absorb as much sound as possible. Bouncy concrete and speakers aren't friends.

With all open space that a garage has, but with some shelfing, lawn tractor if have, and other items stored, it should be interesting to hear the DD surround feeling. It probably will be all around, like in an actual movie theatre. Good luck with your new arrangement!!

Good point. Plus I have a surveillance camera mounted on top of garage door, which is clearly visible. But I can lock the garage by putting a screwdriver in one of the holes, which I’ve done before when the electricity went out and I had to open the garage manually.

Most of the time, the people in the household will be entering the garage from the back door.
If that camera isn't out of reach, it's not likely to help much- they all have blind spots and if you don't aim another camera at each of the ones you have, it wouldn't be difficult to enter unseen, after disabling one of them.

Remember- you may have an alarm system or surveillance cameras & recorder, but the criminals don't give a crap.

So I just ended up returning the 5.1 Klipsch system I got from Costco. I wanted to buy 2 in-ceiling speakers and find a way to mount them on the wooden panels you see at the top of my garage for the Atmos dome effect. What do you think? Also going to find another sub (some good deals out now).

Maybe run a big piece of wood on top and attach it to that?

What about the insect problem in a garage, are you planning on fumigating and bug spraying on a regular basis to keep those little creepy crawly things out of the electronics?

In 7 years I've not needed to deal with any but a very few bugs in the garage I converted to a workshop (never needed to use insecticides). The other garage is a spider fest, tho.

I’m considering these 8” Sonance in ceiling speakers. I was looking at the 6”, but I thought why not go 8” since I’m missing the other 2 speakers for the Atmos ceiling effect. $600 off now (not bad)..

Get them cheaper if you can. Used isn't an issue for me as I got my ceiling Atmos speakers used. They were something around the same MSRP as these and I got 4 for around $100 each.

After procrastinating for a long time, I finally setup my system in garage. I bought 2 rugs from Home Depot and bought acoustic treatment foam pads from Amazon. I don’t think my dog can hear it from the main house now. Only problem now is I might have to worry about 1 neighbor by my side but I’ll still have to test it from standing outside in backyard as that’s where the audio can mainly be heard.

I used 2 Raid foggers as a precaution even though I never saw any critters in there. I haven’t used my system for a while since my dog would get scared as soon as the audio came up, so it’s nice that I can enjoy watching movies and listento great music.

You can see the portable AC I bought in the corner there. It’s supposed to be quieter than typical ACs as it has this “whisper” technology and is rated at 700 sq ft. ( I thought I should go big for the AC as a garage may be tougher to cool than standard room).

Hope those foam pieces weren't too expensive. Not likely to be all that effective. Nice to get it setup and running I bet!

I bought the foam pieces as opposed to the pad for carpeting. IMO, I think these are better based on reading reviews and we’re a bit more expensive than what the pad would’ve cost.

here they are:

JBER 12 Pack Acoustic Foam Panels, 1" X 12" X 12" Studio Soundproofing Wedges Fire Resistant Sound Proof Padding Acoustic Treatment Foam (Black) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08R1JFZCF/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_GQKFG191JXM0NAZNYBGZ?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Well at least fairly inexpensive but soundproofing? No. A heavy duty carpet pad I'd think would do better than these. Neither are going to absorb but limited range of sound frequencies....

if your set-up suites your fancy, that is all that matters! Enjoy
