AV Receivers and GSYNC Denon (X3600H)

My first post here!

I just recently purchased a new LG C1 OLED TV. My current receiver is a Denon X3600H that I'm using in my 11.2 setup.
I'm currently using a 2080 TI as my primary video card but will eventually update to a 3080 when prices and inventory permit.
I've found that the Denon X3600H doesn't pass or allow my GSYNC to function. When I hook up my PC directly to the LG C1 everything works.
I attempted to use EARC to try and bypass the receiver as a video source but that is also buggy with the LG C1 and the Denon X3600H. I got the sound to work 1 time out of 10.
Even when I got it working my games were limited to Stereo. I tried to edit the EDID with CRU to allow for 7.1 channels for gaming I never managed to get EARC going again after a reboot.

Anyhow since the Denon X3600H doesn't seem to work does anyone have any receiver suggestions that they have confirmed GSYNC working with?

What video settings are you using in the Denon? What are the particulars of video output from this gsync thing?

HDMI audio out - AVR
Pass Through Source - Game
RC Source Select Power On + Source
HDMI Control - Off
ARC - Off

Video/Output Settings
HDMI Video Output - Auto/Dual
Video Mode - Auto
Video Conversion - Off

Video/4k Signal Format - Enhanced.

As far as GSync goes it's either a setting that shows up in the Video card Control panel so you can enable it or disable it depending on if your computer detects there is a Monitor capable of enabling it.

If your Monitor doesn't support it, it doesn't show up in the Nvidia Control Panel.

When I hook my Computer straight to the TV GSync shows up in the Nvidia Control Panel.
When I go to the receiver then to the TV it doesn't show up in the Nvidia Control Panel.

GSync's main purpose is to prevent screen tearing in Video games where the framerate can't keep up with the refresh rate. It allows your monitor/tv to vary it's refresh rate to match the framerate and prevent screen tearing.

Over my head on the video stuff...I'm still happy with 1080p nor do I game It does seem the Denon is not able to pass the gsync enhanced signal thru (I take it it can handle your output otherwise?). What technically are these enhancements particularly that gsync applies? Variable frame rate in what range? Don't know what I'd look for in an avr spec so far that might get in the way....

Just curious, you're sure you're using a sufficient bandwidth hdmi cable (imagine it is if it works going to the tv instead, just hard to assume you used the same cable

ps Haven't been following 2.1 HDMI issues and how they're cropping up or being resolved particularly in some Denons that have been reported, you might search around for such....

I am indeed using 2 verified HDMI 2.1 cables. In the case of 4k gaming you would get variable frame rate in the range of 40 to 60hz for the C1 due to being limited by HDMI 2.0 nature of the receiver and Video card. I was kind of hoping someone who was running a receiver and something HDMI 2.1 would be able to let me know if they managed to get GSync working as well. I know this is still fairly new due to the HDMI 2.1 bug the 2020 receivers were affected with.

HDMI cable doesn't come in 2.1 designation particularly, at least not official ones. They're rated by bandwidth, not what some retailer marked them contrary to hdmi.org standards. If it's only up to 60hz I'd think the Denon could pass it...but hopefully someone more up to snuff on this sort of compatibility can advise....good luck!

I doubt there is any receiver that will do what you want.

Receivers are not for gamers basically, they are for movies, music and concerts. For a receiver to do what you want it would require a Gsync Nvidia compatible video input. This technology is proprietary to NVIDIA. I doubt receiver manufacturers will pay the license fee.

I think you can do a work around though. Run an HDMI cable from your computer video card to your LG TV. As you know LG support this technology.

Now run an optical cable to your receiver for the audio.

I know this works, as my DAW connects to its monitor via HDMI. The computer connects to the RME DAC via Firewire. The RME connects to my pre/pro with an optical cable and it works just fine.

Exactly this.

One cable from your video card to your TV, another from your video card to the receiver. That's it. Works quite well, but you have to make sure your audio device is your receiver in the control panel, but other than that it's easy until you get a receiver that supports VRR and all that.

Hi, I have the LG CX10, RTX 30 series gpu, denon avr x2700h 2020 model. I asked the same question about gsync support before upgrading my avr to the latter. No receiver states gsync/freesync support as 2021. Using your LG as a pc monitor, it is recommended to set your LG to PC mode in the lg home menu. It tells the gpu to treat your tv as a pc monitor. If they do release an avr with gsync support that means all your other devices will be stuck in pc mode running off the dedicated arc port.
