Dual or Single sub help in my room....

So I love the PB4000 but now I am wondering if going with two smaller ported subs will yield better acoustics, as most people have been mentioning on these forums and SVS website??

As you can see from the image, space is kinda limited.

Was even contemplating going PB16 - qty 1 because 2 subs might not fit right in the space upfront.

Why would the subs necessarily go up front? The rest of the room is off limits?

That does limit sub placement options. Subs tend to need to go where they need to go rather than where you want them to go You may get little/no benefit if you place the two subs close together outside of increased overhead.

That said, I think dual is always better than 1. I don't think the PB16U offers a whole lot more than the PB4000. I seem to recall @shadyJ saying it even outperforms it in some respects.

Refresh us on your room volume and how much smaller are you talking? A pair of PB3000s wouldn't be bad, depending on room volume, I don't think I'd wanna go smaller than that tho. One thing to note, part of dual subs having a smoother response across a bigger area is dependant on placement. Up front might work for you, it might not.

That's how I have mine and I can make it work. I use a calibrated mic, REW and a MiniDSP to do it tho. Audyssey alone does an admirable job, but still left my bass sounding thin.

No, I just said I use a mic to measure and a MiniDSP with lots of PEQ.

I might just have to try the duals next to either side of console and towers after that

I’m sure it will be tricky as the towers should be pointed at a slight angle to the listening position but don’t think there’s much room after the subs go there

Besides visually, with the Ultra Towers would it matter if I have them tightly grouped up front in order to accomodate the Subs?

I have them set to SMALL so the sub is doing all the heavy LFE lifting, the Ultra Subs most likely wouldn't be working anyway? I am assuming thats the case. Plus the way the Ultra is designed, with that forward angle, by default the speaker has some space away from the wall, etc.?

I want duals pretty bad now hearing all the pros it offers, so trying to make this work!

The easiest solution would be to get another PB4000 and try it in whatever available locations you have. If it works great, if not it's an easy return with SVS.

If I were you, I would place the 2nd sub elsewhere in the room. Two subs up front will not address lengthwise room modes. Maybe one in the corner and the other on a sidewall.
