If I were you, I would place the 2nd sub elsewhere in the room. Two subs up front will not address lengthwise room modes. Maybe one in the corner and the other on a sidewall.

I do - however since looking at the 3000 series which boasts a new voice coil that allows pretty decent output with a smaller footprint, I was contemplating going dual PB3000's

Keep in mind you are giving up a lot of deep bass headroom with the SB-3000s when compared to the PB-3000s.

I wouldn't go with sealed, even a pair. Unless I had a small-ish room and no choice. I think you'll be disappointed.

Really? I have read lots of reviews with happy people who incorporated dual sb3000's in decent sized rooms.

It just depends on your spl and extension goals (and perhaps how many subs) when comparing sealed to ported....

I have too, but also others that switched to PB’s that never looked back. With the couch being stuck against the wall, the sb3k’s might be satisfactory since bass waves collect at walls. I agree with @Pogre about sealed. Don’t like em, except for tiny spaces. Also agree that an ultra
Good thing for you is the SVS bill of rights allows you to basically try out whatever you want. FWIW, the cylinders might offer some more placement options while being lighter and easier to move. Also, I think two pb3000 would be much better than a single pb4000. But they’re still kinda big.

I think I have decided to try out a PB3000 on the left side to compare with the PB4000 - if it works just as good, I will go Dual and add another PB3000 - Setting up the Ultras on the sides of the console with the subs on the outer

I doubt you’d ever notice the difference in extension, and yes, you will have more output capability, and the potential benefits of FR smoothing. As mentioned though, placing them that closely together may have them acting more like a single sub than two. An educated guess would take more math than I have time to do atm. Lol
If you have ANY flexibility in placement it’s always best to experiment. Looking beautiful and symmetrical up front is definitely cool, but imo, where the rubber meets the road is more important.

Yes, agree.

For our friend: co-location of a sub is when the placement has them within a quarter wave length of each other:
@ 20Hz, <14.065' would have the Subs operating as one
@120Hz, <2.344' would be considered co-located.

It's not necessarily bad to have them placed in such a manner, however as the wavefronts are leaving the source, as noted earlier, and the Subs are operating as if co-located you will not receive the acoustic benefit of multiple subs working to eliminate room modes.

I can do this with the PB4000 with only one on the right side - I wonder if it would even out the bass like this. (bouncing off the wall perhaps?)

If I go Dual I can only point them front facing though, anyway just wondering.

The best part of a sealed sub's world is smaller size. Everything else about it is a compromise for deep bass so no, you are not getting the best of both worlds running a ported sub sealed. You're neutering your ported sub's capabilities by plugging the ports.
